The Game Of Qatnes. Richmond Times-Dispatch. While eight thousand people or more send up appluse that would have have drowned the tumult of the Roman colliseum, the rival elevens of the University of Virginia and of battle today for foot ball supremacy. It ought to be a great game. It hss been well said that it is a football classic, it ought also be said that it is an institu tion. It is an interstate affair, which two rival States watch with breathless intere»t. Thousands of welcome visitors are in Richmond by reason of this game, whether they wear the Orange and Blue or the White and Blue we are glad to have them here, and are glad to welcome back those who make this an occasion for an annual journey to the football Mecca of the two States whose pride is involved. The heart of a good m an is the san ctuary of God in this world.—Mme Necker. Overpaid Him “Yes,” says the large man with the heavy watchguard, “I paid Jugcins $1,- 000 for his vote in the Legislature and Fm mighty sorry I did it.” “Why?” asks the man with the red and green striped shirt. “Did he turn State’s evidence?” “No; but I learned afterward that he only wanted 520D for his vote in the first place. Chicago Post. Opportunity. And this I saw, or dreamed it in a dream; There spread a cloud of dust alone a plain, And underneath the cloud, or in it, raged A furious battle, and men yelled and swords Shocked upon swords an shields. A prince’s banner Wavered, then staggered backward, hemmed by foes. A craven hung along the battle’s edge. And thought: “Had I a sword of keener steel, That blue blade that the king’s son bears—but this Blunt thing!” Ae snapt and flung it from his hand. And, hovering, crept away, and left the field. Then came the king’s son, wounded, sore beset. And weaponless, and saw the broken sword. And ran and snatched it, and with battle shout Lifted afresh, he hewed his enemy down. And saved a great cause that heroic day. -E. R. Sill. Saves Two Lives. “Neither my sister nor myself might be living to day, if it had not been for Dr. King’s New Discovery” writes A. D.
