Ti]e»e wiil be much business to transact, and u. is to be hoped that there will be a good attendance of rcDres*enta- tive Democrats. Mr. John Ver- ' non's name is signed to the call, i John is chairman. We want to say if there is anything hanging [ loose around this convention that I it would se^Vthat a gppd Detn- iocrat ought ^to have, John Vernon is the man for it. A brig:ht active Democrat, a seif sacraficing Democrat, a patriot, and all that. Don’t forget John. Mr. Roosevelt will soon be home and then ^.e wiil tell us of some of the wild animals he saw in South America, the prolific field of animal nature, and as soon as he gets time from this subject he will give us a few lines on the needful politics of the day. The Mediators are supposed to be able to get down to business, on Wednesday of this week May 20th. They have wined and din ed at Washington, kissed and embraced the delegates to tlie convention, and it is now sup posed they Will be ready • for business. It is sincerely hoped that the Mediators may bo able to reach a safe and satisfactory solution to the dificulty questions, bjt we rather doubt k. To become en tangled in war with a nation that has no intellegent repres entative head, is a kind of a folly Mr. Wilson is trying to avoid. There are times in every woman’s life when she needs a tonic to help her over the hard places. When tiiat time comes to you, you know what tonic to take—Cardui, the woman’s tonic. Cardui is com posed of purely vegetable in^^redients, which act gently, yet surely, on the weakened womanly organs, and helps build them back to Strength and health. It has benefited thousands and thousands of weak, ailing women in its past half century of wonderful success, and it will do the same for you. You can’t make a mistake in taking The Mebane officials, or those who have the matter in hand, should get to doing something on the road through town as early as possible. Time is pas sing and the work can not be done too soon. People who pass out of Mebane going East is bound to note th'e improvement in the road when they reach the Orange county line. You may think it ycur duty to j make your neighbor good, if you think that the chief way in which you will make him good will be by being good your self. Precept is a fine thing but the most potent moral force the world has ever known is example. Let the world see what your own life is, and then be sure it is good, it is kind, it is charatable, nothing need be said, but you will do a great and noble work. Don't fear the world wont see what you are doing, for it will. ’ .lernl '.r :iie n frht I trar;.rc>d back h- m Sink’n’ ut'fp in ihe tresli turned Ioumi, Sick and sore fur the dear o'.u pluoo. There are a good many people who thought the New York Supreme court made a mistake in granting him a new trial. The characters of wit nesses it is proposed to try to convict him with in his second trial are hardly any better than those who appeared in his first tnal. But what matters, it the supreme court that is supposed to be an infalable tribunal, but the fact is it is not and never will be no more than the five commissioners that framed up the case when Tilden was de frauded out of the Presidency and Hays given the place on a count of three to five.
