CORRESPOND ENCk We wish correspondents in all the nearby post offices Write at onop THURSDAY, mAY, 27TH, 1915 ITS A GOOD THING Its a good thinpr for the North Carolina insurance department to do what it can and a’l it can to encourage precaution against fire losses. To do all it can to have people avoid the risk from which fire results, but would it not be equally commendable in commissioner Young to try his hand at seeing the people were not imposed upon so badly, through high rates on insurance. Ofcourse we know it cost big money to pay for the enormous marble palaces ihat insurance companies do business in, and we know it takes big money to pay the high salaries of their officials, but has all this and more too got to be paid for be fore the public can be given a square deal by the insurance companies. Mr. Young had^ duties before the last legislature, architectural dreams of as a body, and duties in the in terest of a long suffering people who are imposed upon by high and unjust insurance rates. Did he discharge them? The insur ance companies agree to give you a very low rate of insurance if you will equip your factory with the latest devises for ex tinguishing fire by a system of pipes conveying water to ever/ portion of your building, at a cost approximation eight or ten thousand dollars, after you have done that then they demand that you carry a very large insurance so they may still get the com mission in big batches. NO CAUSE TO FIGHT Germany commenced prepar ing thirty years ago for the war she is fighting to day, a war of her own making. It was Ger- manys deplomacy, and her agents that forced Austria there ally to declare war against the Serbs. Germany immediately after this fire brand became a blazing torch started her cut throat legions through Belgium on their way to capture ^:he l^rench capital, but the Belgium much contrary to their expecta tion blocked their way at Ant werp, which gave the French long enough time to collect their forces, to meet the invader. Had it not been for these brave little Belgiums the German forces would in all probability have been in Paris to day. Germany had no cause to fight save one of cruel greed, and in- satiate thirst for dominion. All this trouble caused by the Euro pean war is directly traceable to Germanys militaryism to the brutal Emperor of Germany. England would have had noth ing to do with it had it not been for Germanys disregard of Bel giums neutrality. The Germans regarded a solemn compact made to respect Belgiums neutrality as a scrap of paper. When En gland declared war she did it solely on account of the Ger mans treatment of Belgium, for she reasoned well that a nation which had no more regard for its word, and its honor, a nation that was manifesting more ele ments of cruelty than had ever been known in modern times, should be curbed ere they reach ed that point in which they would over ride the more conservative civilization of the world, and dominate other powers as she had dominated Belgium. All the oceans of blood, and all the wilful waste and destruct ion of the splendid buildings, the it. We need a man for Gover-1 nor with some independance of character, some scruples of right ^ of his own by which he would' be governed, one who can do j things without consulting the* bosses. Whole Family Jbependent | Mr. E. Williams, Hamilton, Ohio, { writes “Our whole family depend on | Pine-Tar-Honey.” Maybe someone in j your family has a severe Cold—perhaps it is the baby. There is unrest among the men, the girls, and even among the babies, there is un rest in Europe, in Africa, in Japan, in China, and even in America. There is no such thing as rest.
