Ware, corresponding secretary of the North Carolina Christian Missionary Convention and general secretary of Atlantic Christ- College, Wilson, occupied the pulpit at Gordon Street Christian Church Sunday at bath services. Mr. Ware delivered two interesting ser mons. His subject at night was "Prayer." He emphasized the scrip tural examples of prayer and tabooed the long-drawn ones. It is asserted that unanimously tihe "Iron Bridge" folk are insisting upon Sunday sanctity nowadays. As a committee I tne Whom they have an icfficer stationed at, that parting of the ways. Many there are, it is said, who have not yet learned that it is not worth while to stop at the bridge any longer on other than legitimate business. But the past two Sundays they who stopped did not linger when the inquisitive bull bore down upon them. First Hard-surface Road. A representative of , the State Highway Commission is expected here Wednesday to confer with the County Commissioners, on the con struction of the sample hard-surface road from here to Hines' Junction. The two-mile strip will, be hullt by the, County and Federal Government Jointly. The United States will con tribute $10,000,, the Councy $20,000 to $25,000. The friends of good roads here hope 1 a drive may be launched after Christmas that will result in voting a bond election to hard-surface every mile of main I roadway in the County. , From $500,- 000 to $750,000 would be needed for a respectable program. Congregational Meeting. A congregational (business meet ing took the place of the usual ser vice at St. Mary's Episcopal Church Sunday morning.; Jlr. . G. V. , CW- per of the vestry made an address, telling of the progress of the church. Treasurer D. F. Woot.su stated that approximately $5,000 worth of im provements are practically paid for. although the congregation will have to spend move 1n future for running expenses, C'est le guerre. Mr, H.
