H. S. Tapp&D, of Spruce Pine, for
the construction of "an 18-foot
mountain road from Gillespie Gap
to Bear Wallow Gap, a distance of

good road from the railroad to the
attractive resort of the "Switzer
land Company located in the 'beau
tiful mountain sections of Mitchell
and McDowell counties. -A

their completion is contempalated

ny has 1,100 acres and they have
arranged to divide this into 100

The resort is destined to become
very popular and will probably

Correct Census Details Wanted.

issued a few days ago urges every
body throughout the United States
and accurately all inquiries ad
dressed to them by the enumer

be engaged in' taking of the thir
teenth decennial census which
work will begin April 15th, 1910.
On his proclamation the Presi-
says:
"The sole purpose of the census
is to secure general statistical in
formation regarding the popula
tion and resources of the eountry.
and replies are required from in
viduals only in order to permit the
complication of such general stat
istics. The census has nothing' to
do wiin taxation, witn army or
jury service, with the compulsion
of school attendance, with the reg
ulation of immigration, or with
the enforcement of any national,
state or local law or ordinance, nor
can any' person be harmed in any
way by : furnishing the' informa
tion desired " There need be no
fear that-any disclosure will be
made regarding any - individual
person oc his affairs. For the due
protection of the rights and inter
ests of the persons fnrnishing in
formation, ever? employee of the
census bureau is prohibited, -under
heavy penalty, from disclosing any
information which may thus come
to" his knowledge. ,
-I therefore earnestly urge upon
all persons to answer promptly,
completely and accurately all in
quiries addressed to them by the
enumerators or other employes of
the census bureau, and tberby- to
contribute their- share towards
making this great and necessary
