HIS FRIEND HURT; HE HELPED HIM Injured Man Lauffhed When Sim ple Treatment Was Suggested, B>ut He Thanked His Comrade Later, Once apon a time word came to Henry A. Voehl, of Piaiufield, N. Just by way of reminder, al- tbousrh an unpleasant one to some, The Philadelphia Kecord says that in April, 1908, when Theodore Roosevelt was President, the Ding- ley tariff was in operatioo, the Re po blicans held both houses of Con gress, and Providence accordingly should have smiled upon this blessed land, there were 413,000 idle freight cars standing upon the tracks of American railroads. Business was iressed, and continued so for several years. On November 1, 1916, within a week of a presiden tial election, which generally has a deterrent effect upon commerce, there was a shortage of 108,010 freight cars, or a difference of some 521,000 from the days of the Rooseveltian panic. With the re- election of a Democratic President the shortage dally grows worse.— Charlotte Observer. Professional Cards Dr. J. Gillespie Reid DENTIST Will answer calls at any hour of the night.
