COUCH, Postmaster. The successful merchant is the one that advertises. New Apartment Houses. Among the new buildings erected dur ing the summer is a quartet of cottages of four suites each, known as "The JJeacon" on Magnolia road near the junction of Ueech road, "The Dartmouth" on Main street near the pine grove, "The Tre mont" on Elm road, and "The Marl borough" on East Main street. These cottages are rented in suites of two or three rooms, as prefered, and are fur nished for light housekeeping or suitable for people who had rather obtain board at the Casino. Particular care was exer cised in locating the cottages so that every suite should receive as much sun light as possible, and any one acquainted with the village can see that they were properly located to obtain that result. The suites are so arranged that most of them have front doors for their exclusive use, thus making them nearly or quite as desirable as single cottages and at con siderable less rent. Without any voice, $4,000 of the $6,000 required has been raised for building a monument to the signers of the Mecklen burg Declaration of independence at Charlotte. We have not printed an item in many days that gives us so much pleas ure. The people of Mecklenburg not only honor themselves but teach history when they erect a permanent memorial of the patriots of 1775. It will have the eilect of silencing those who have expressed doubts of the genuineness of the declaration. You cannot argue against a stone memorial that looks on your lack of faith with cool indifference. Itnleigh Observer.
