Though young in the journalistic field, we feel encouraged by the support we are receiving to improve our plant, mul tiply our pages, and endeavor to present to our patrons the news and matters of interest as fully as possible. In this issue The Outlook contains eight pages of matter which we believe will be of interest to the people of the North and South alike, and hereafter it will be our ambition not only to continue the size but also to improve The Outlook in every respect, the first of which Ave be lieve will be comparatively easy from the fact that in place of the motive power of Africa's sons, we are now able in work ing the successor of Franklin's press, to utilize the spark which was by him first discovered. We believe in booming North Carolina and to show to the world outside our borders, that the conditions that make life pleasant and profitable can be found within the limits of the Old North State to a greater extent than in any other portion of our great country. The Outlook is a weekly newspaper and gives all the news possible in each weekly issue, but we desire to give" news more frequently to our people and have come to the conclusion that we can do so to some extent by providing a bul letin board on the outside of our office. This we have done, and have made ar rangement to have all events of impor tance oceuring in the North especially, telegraphed to us for the benefit of our northern visitors and others who are far from their permanent homes. OUR CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION. Plans Made and Committees Appointed Last Monday Evening. A meeting was held in the Casino parlor l ist Monday evening to discuss plans for a Christmas celebration in the new Village Hall. Jiev. li. H. Tohey was elected chairman, .Miss Mabel T. Hall, secretary, and Miss Nettie Drew, treasurer. It was agreed to follow the same general plan as last year in divid ing the work among various committees. Accordingly a committee on funds, in cluding Miss Drew, Miss Upham, and Mr. Spinney, was appointed. Contribu tions large or small will be received by them, and will be devoted to defraying the expenses of the entertainment. The committee on decoration consists of Miss (iilbert, Miss Hopkinson, Dr. Jones, Mr. Vale, and Mr. Poole. The commit tee on entertainment consists of Mrs. Adams, Miss Carrington, Miss Jane Car rington, Mr. Kedding, and Mr. Lindsey. It was agreed th.it the chairman, secre tary, and treasurer of the meeting should serve as a central or executive commit tee. The various committees are to con fer, devise plans and report at another meeting to be held next Monday evening in the Casino parlor. After some gen eral discussion of plans that will te pre sented more fully matured next week, the meeting adjourned. After the adjournment of the meeting for the Christmas entertainment a second meeting was held to consider the expe diency of forming a society to promote the social side of life at Pinehurst by holding entertainments at intervals dur ing the winter. Mr. Tobey was again made chairman and Miss Hall secretary. The subject was freely discussed and opinions were expressed by all present. The sentiment seemed in favor of giving the society a wide scope; not confining it to literary entertainments, but giving variety by having musical and dramatic entertainments, now and then. Mr. Spinney moved the appointment of a committee of five to consider the expe diency of forming such a society and re port a tentative plan after the next meet ing of the Christinas committee. The motion was carried. Upon motion of Miss Frisbee it was voted that the com mittee be appointed by the chair. The chair accordingly named Mr. Spinney, Miss Frisbee, Miss Uphain, Mrs. Adams and den.
