McDonald, extends a cordial in vitation to our northern friends in the vil lage to attend the exercises. The school is located about three miles from town, and horses can be procured at the livery stable, or a right smart walk over and back will insure a keen appetite for dinner. PERSONAL MENTION. Mrs. Albert Cook of Seneca Falls, X. V., is a guest at the Inn. Mr. John Lilly of Lainbertville, X. J., arrived at the Holly Inn last evening. John L. Uuerkle and wife of Alleghany, Pa., are at the "Cedars" for the winter. W. O. Reynolds of Albany, X. Y., registered at the Holly Inn on Wednes day. Miss (Jussie Herwin of Xew York City is an occupant of the ever popular "Cedars." Misses C. K. and M. E. Parmelee of Malone, X. Y., are settled at the Inn for the winter. Mr. McMullan Hamilton and sister of Uush, X. Y., have arrived at the Holly Inn and will remain during the season. Mrs. J. C.Jiisher and son Arthur of Pittsburg, Pa., are guests at the Holly Inn, and will remain during the season. Capt. A. V. Keed, U. S. A., of Xew Canaan, Conn., with his wife and daugh ters has arrived, and they will make their home at the Holly Inn during the winter. Mrs. Holt and Misses Julia and Minnie Holt are occupying annex cottage 31, of the Holly Inn. They are from Farm ington, Me., and will spend the winter here to escape the rigors of the Xew England climate. Edwin Sogers of North Adams, Mass., so well and favorably known among us last winter, is again at the Holly Inn for the season. Brother Itogers is like many others who have spent one season here, they are sure to make a second visit. Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Wilcox of Provi dence, li. I., are at the "Cedars." Mr. Wilcox is connected with the Providence (las Co., and is a well-known resident of that city. His visit to Pinehurst is for the purpose of recovering his health, which has been impaired by overwork. J. Peterson Pyder of Philadelphia, Pa., a brother of Mrs. Adams of "The Marlborough," is spending the holidays at the Holly lim. Mr. Ityder is profess or of the Ling system of gymnastics at the Drexel institute. He is also a re markably fine singer and has given much pleasure to our winter visitors while here. Instructor. The services of a teacher of Mathemat ics, German, Latin, Botany, Geology and English Literature can be obtained for pupils in Pinehurst, provided a sufficient number of boys or young women apply. The gentleman is a graduate of Harvard and former professor in one of the New York colleges. Aside from his scholarly ability he is a very conscientious gentle man, whose influence could not be other wise than elevating upon the character of his pupils. The sacred concert at the Holly Inn last Sunday evening called together a large and appreciative audience, includ ing many of the cottagers throughout the village. The concert was held in the music room of the Inn and was con ducted by Mr. Lindsey, leader of the orchestra, and included the following selections : PKOGKAM. Minuet Op. 14, Padereski Orchestra. Song, Land o' the Leal, A. Foot Miss Carrington. Selection, Maritana, Wallace Orchestra. The Holly Inn orchestra is making a reputation for good music in keeping with the reputation of the Inn. Its management of the concert and the first class talent which they presented we hear well spoken of by all who attended. Everything connected with the Holly Inn is always first class. Pleasant Social Event. The first hop of the season was held at Holly Inn last Wednesday evening and was greatly enjoyed by all who had the good fortune to be present. The affair took place in what was formerly the dining room of the Inn, but this year the apartment has been handsomely fitted up for a music room, a new large dining room having been built at the Inn since last season. The hotel orchestra fur nished excellent music, and between the dances a pleasing program of vocal se lections wras rendered. The affair was managed by Miss liedtield assisted by Miss Carrington, and the young ladies are to be congratulated on the succes attending their efforts. TO TENANTS. Freezing of Water Pipes and Neglect of Sanitary Utiles. Negligence on the part of the tenants, in shutting off the water from their sinks and water closets, has been the occasion of much trouble. In order to avoid this in future the following rules must be observed : During the winter season the water must be shut off from all sinks and closets, by means of the handle connect ing with ground valves placed for this purpose, and at the same time, the sink faucet must be opened, and water-closet Hushed, in order to allow the pipe to empty. No rags, newspaper, garbage, or other insoluble material shall be thrown into the closets.
