It is six miles from Southern Pines, 70 miles southwest of Raleigh, and 125 miles from the sea coast. It is elevated 650 feet above the sea level, and is noted for its healthfulness. Tufts, of Boston, in 1895, and has already become one of the most popular resorts in the South. The Holly Inn, Pinehurst's mammoth hotel, has been enlarged since last season to double its former capacity, and is first class in all its appointments. The Casino building contains on the first floor a restaurant where good board may be obtained at moderate rates ; also, a ladies' parlor and bath rooms. The second story has reading room supplied with the leading papers and magazines and a game room, for the use of all the villagers free of charge ; and pool and bath rooms connected are for the use of all upon the payment of a small fee. A new store building with more floor space than any other store in the county, is filled with a stock of general merchandise. Pretty cottages dot the village and are rented at moderate rates.
