8 DRIFTING. Lost and I know not where thou art, I know we change in mind and heart, Hut dearest friends will drift apart Upon time's treacherous tide. And yet I dreamed that thou and I, On waters calm, 'neath cloudless sky, Might onward float forever nigh Across life's ocean wide. And yet I moaned the luckless day That marked thee slowly glide away; My heart in piteous tone cried stay And leave me not alone. No answering word nor look from thee Came through the distance back to me; Only a waste of life's deep sen Made melancholy moan. We had No parting words nor farewell kiss, Only a vanished dream of Miss, A void that aches from what we miss Out from the life and heart. I am Too weary of this world's dull ways To scorn alike its blame and praise, And weep for joy of bygone days, Ah me! to drift apart! I lose thee 1 who lose so few I trust to thee and lose thee true; I always trust the heart that's true, And fear no change of years. Total solid matter in solution Grains per U. S. The total solid matter and chlorine is very small; and the ammonia, both free and albuminoid, is quite considerably less than is usually found in drinking waters. These facts show it to be a very valuable source for a water supply; in fact, so far as the chemical examination is concerned, we seldom 11 ml such purity. (Signed) II. 11. Battle. Letters from Former Itealrients. Mrs. Lizzie F. Hood, of Dan vers, Mass., who was a guest here last winter, writes as follows : "I have the pleasantest of recollections of my winter and spring in Pinehurst of the South, of Pinehurst, of the kindness and courtesy of all with whom I had to do, of my many new friends made there, and of all the good times day after day. I judge by your circulars t hat Pinehurst has been much changed and improved, or rather added to. IT MTVIm Some hearts are made to love in vain, Some brows to ever ache with pain, Some lips to sing a sad refrain, Some eyes are made for tears. I quit the busy haunts of men, And seek sweet solitude again With friendly book and faithful pen; Their words are not lost to me. But love, I know not where thou art, I know we change in mind and heart, And this is why we drift apart Upou time's storm-tossed sea. T. A. Fkve. l'iiielitirst Spring Water. The Pinehurst spring water is of ex traordinary purity and has proved one, of the greatest attractions in the village. Jt exerts remarkably benetieal effects in cases of kidney trouble and weak diges tion, and large quantities are shipped North, where its sale is constantly in creasing, especially among those who spend the winter months here. The fol lowing is the report of the ANALYSIS. Raleigh, N. C, April 5, 1897. Analysis No. 10,111. Dear Sik: The sample of health water sent to the station for analysis in a demijohn, marked "From tube well system, Pinehurst, N. C," contains: pleasure than to spend a morning on the golf grounds, breathing that sweet, clear, life-giving air, with the glorious view of sky and clouds all about me. I look for ward to a pleasure trip South with my husband, and you may be sure that Pinehurst will be our stopping place. All the circulars and papers which I had relating to Pinehurst have been used again and again. I can honestly recom mend it and most heartily do' Mr. Ellery l. Wilcox of Providence, 11. I. ; who spent the last season in our village, writes : "1 consider the winter I spent in Pinehurst the most delightful I ever enjoyed. There is a charm about the place quite unexpected in the southern country, and about the family (for it seems like the gathering together of a big family) that one cannot rind anywhere else, and which must urge one, as cold weather approaches, to go back home to Pinehurst. If everybody to whom Mrs. Wilcox and I have "enthused" over Pinehurst should happen to visit you, you would need more than one new hotel to hold them. We envy our friends their winter there."
