The Seaboard Air Line's new through

will probably be put on about the middle
of next month. There will be two of
these through trains daily, and two local
trains. The time from New York will
also be cut down.
Work on the new Aberdeen & Ashe
boro railroad station in our village com
menced' yesterday. The new building is

The extension of the Carthage railroad
to Greensboro is now said to be prac
tically decided upon. Only forty miles
will have to be built, and the lay of the
country is such that the road can be
constructed very cheap. This will give
the Seaboard Air Line the connection
into Greensboro that it has long been
seeking.
Among the improvements made at the

numbers placed on high poles just

will be a great convenience to the
players, especially to those who are not
familiar with the course.
Tickets for stations on the Aberdeen

The Washington Post Almanac for 1900
is a handy little volume of over five hun
dred pages teeming with useful knowl
edge, and is worth many times its price
25 cents. It contains information on
nearly every subject under the sun, and
the fact that its statistics are up to date
makes it particularly valuable as a book
of reference. This little encyclopedia
may be obtained by sending twenty-five
cents to the Post, Washington. D. C.
The new parlor at the Berkshire is one
of the most attractive apartments in the
village. It is beautifully decorated, the
furnishings are comfortable and tasteful,
and the room is sure to be very popular
with the guests. The ladies' writing
room is an innovation that is appreciated.
A portion of the new part of the building
has been occupied during the past week
This contains a number of large sunny
rooms that are in great demand. The
house is rapidly tilling up and Landlord
Kimball may well feel elated at . the
bright prospects for a most successful
season.
The popularity of the golf links is
steadily increasing and the courses are
thronged with players every pleasant
day. The 10th hole, which requires a
long drive from the top of the resin tee
in order to to cross the pond, is proving
a puzzle for poor players, and many a
ball finds a resting place beneath the
water. The best record in this direction
was made during the past week, when
one of our enthusiastic golfers drove five
balls in succession directly into the pond.
He is not yet discouraged, and, as all
rights in the pond are reserved, the
chances are good for finding a small
fortune in balls when the pond is drained
in the spring.
