John T. liiitchelder of Boston, is the guest of Mr. C. E. Kennedy, at the Colden Gate Cottage. Miss Bertha Taylor, one of the guests at the Cedars, lias arranged to entertain her friends at a 5 o'clock tei every after noon. Miss Taylor is a charming hostess and her friends are indeed fortunate to he able to accept of her hospitality. We are glad to be able to welcome so many new guests to Pinehurst so early in the season. The fame of our beautiful town is spreading, the visitors who have been here in the past always speak a good word for the town, and they return year after year bringing their friends with them. Mr. J. K. Westbrook of "Wilmington, N. C, the well known whistler, was in town Tuesday and gave an exhibition of his talent at the Iienox in the evening. Mr. Westbrook is certainly a wonder, his rendering of the "mocking bird1' was a revelation to his hearers who were surprised to hear the notes of our feath ered friend reproduced in such a perfect manner. The sacred concert held in the music loom of the Holly Inn Sunday evening was well attended and the music was enjoyed by all present, liev. Mr. Bary. conducted a responsive service after which he gave a brief and interesting talk. The singing was under the direc tion of Mr. A. I). St. Clair, the well known vocalist and director, of New York. Mr. Sharp, one of the best vio linist in the country, was accompanied by Mrs. Sharp, who is a pianist of rare talent. Ladies and gentlemen wishing to join the choir for Sunday services will please meet in Village Hall at 3.30 p. m. Satur day 8th inst., for practice. The first public whist party of the sea son will be held next Monday evening at 8 o'clock in the Village Hall. Mrs. Sum ner L. May hew and Miss Bertha Taylor have kindly consented to act as a com mittee. First, second and booby prizes will be awarded to both ladies and gen tlemen. Players will be charged an admission fee often cnts. The managers cordially invite all villagers and guests to be present, l'efreshments will be served during the evening. Mr. Donald Boss, the well known golf expert who will have charge of the Pinehurst links this season, arrived Wednesday evening. At an early hour yesterday Mr. Boss was at the links and made his first trial of what are conceded by all to be the best 18-hole links in the South. Mr. Boss made the full course which resulted in the remarkably low score of 80. Below we give the score in detail. All those interested in the welfare of the young folks are earnestly invited to attend, and also it is hoped to have as large an adult Bible class as in former years. Household Words. At one of the railway-construction works in the vicinity of the city a Boman Catholic clergyman takes a great interest in the members of his' flock who are engaged at the cutting. On Saturday he saw one of them entering a "pub," and hailed him, but Pat simply looked, and walked in. Y., who is spending the winter at the Berk shire lias just received his automobile. Mr. Shepard contemplates many pleasant trips in and around Pinehurst during the winter.
