Capacity of the Golf Club House Nearly Doublecl-Other Important Improvements The Seasons Tournament Program, The Pinehurst Golf Courses are now generally recognized as not only unques tionably the finest in the South, but the equal of the well-known Northern courses as well, and because of this the number of golfers drawn to Pinehurst annually is "legion," The United North and South Amateur championship, held Golf Club House, are delightful social features of the season. Year after year, to provide for the de mands made by the constantly increasing popularity of this game, which is now National in its character, have been necessary. The management has been equal to the occasion and the re3ultin an equipment more than adequate to meet the demands of the hundreds who daily spend more or less of their time upon the courses. In this particular this past summer has been a notable one. Among the most important of the work accomplished has been the lengthening of the nine-hole, or what was formerly known as the "short" course, and the result is a splendid course of 2,750 yards in length, replete with novel and interesting features. around three sides, with a seven foot width at the north. The new tennis courts have been built at the front of the house, which promises to be popular. "THE TROPHIES OFFERED THIS YEAR ARE THE FINEST EVER GIVEN." each spring, is a contest of National im portance, one of the big tournaments of the year and the first of the spring sea son, and the weekly tournaments draw fields of entries ranging from fifty to one hundred, A conspicuous feature at Pine hurst, is the liberality of the manage ment in the provision of trophies, and the cups offered this year make up what is without doubt, the most extensive and finest collection ever given under similar circumstances. But golfing at Pinehurst is not con fined alone to expert players. Interest in the game embraces all classes, young and old, men and women, sportsmen and non-sportsmen. In fact, a large pro portion of the winter colony find never ending pleasure and satisfaction in the game. The various matches are followed by large galleries and the Saturday afternoon teas and other semi-formal events, held from time to time at the Important changes have also been made in the eighteen-hole course and as a result opening of the present season finds this course in superb condition throughout. Many players are already here, enjoying the many beauties of early season. The informal fixtures will begin in the course of two weeks and will lead up to the stated program which begins Saturday, January second, and continues through the winter, being in tersperced with many informal events of which mixed foursomes are always an interesting feature. The Golf Club House has been in creased to nearly twice its former capacity. The lobby has been enlarged, a waiting room for women added, and one hundred and twenty-five new lockers built. A fifteen foot piazza extends around three sides and a twenty-two foot balcony opens up from the observatory loom on the second floor and extends ments conducted under the auspices of the National Association.
