Trophies Offered Make Up Finest Col lection Ever Offered Under Sim ilar Circumstance. The Pinehurst Golf Courses are now generally recognized as not only unques tionably the finest in the South, but the equal of the well-known Northern courses as well, and because of this the number of golfers drawn to Pinehurst annually is "legion," The United North and South Amateur championship, held each spring, is a contest of National im portance, one of the big tournaments of the year and the first of the spring sea son, and the weekly tournaments draw fields of entries ranging from fifty to one hundred, A conspicuous feature at Pine hurst, is the liberality of the manage ment in the provision of trophies, and the cups offered this year make up what is without doubt, the most extensive and finest collection ever given under similar circumstances. Uut golfing at Pinehurst is not con fined alone to expert players. Interest in the game embraces all classes, young and old, men and women, sportsmen and non-sportsmen. In fact, a large pro portion of the winter colony find never ending pleasure and satisfaction in the game. The various matches are followed by large galleries and the Saturday afternoon teas and other semi-formal events, held from time to time at the Golf Club House, are delightful social features of the season. The program of stated fixtures for the season is the most interesting and varied ever provided, in detail as follows : January 2. Inauguration handicap, medal play, tournament. Cups for best net and best gross scores. January 9. Handicap medal play, tournament for The Harvard trophies. Cups for the best net and best gross scores. January 16. Handicap, match play tournament for The Berkshire trophies. Cups for the winner and runner up. January 23. Handicap, medal play, tournament for The Holly Inn trophies (Handicap limited to eighteen.) Cups for best net and best gross scores. January 30. Handicap, medal play, tournament for The Pinehurst Out look trophies. (Handicap limited in each class to eighteen.) Two classes, A and B, with cups for winner of each class. February 6. Handicap, match play, tournament for The Village trophies. (Open only to those holding season Golf Club tickets.) Cups for winner and run ner-up. February 13. Handicap, match play, tournaments for The Casino trophies. Events for men and women, with cups for the winner and runner-up in each. February 20. Handicap, medal play, mixed foursomes, tournament for The George Washington trophies." Cups for February 27. "Kicker's Handicap," medal play, tournament. Cups for best net scores, men and women. March 5. Pinehurst Golf Club cham pionship, handicap, match play, tourna ment. (Open only to those holding sea son Golf Club tickets.) Cups for the best net and best gross scores in qualifi cation ; "Championship" cup for winner and a cup for runner-up. The first six teen qualify for the mjitch play rounds in the championship ; second sixteen for Consolation trophy. March 12. Handicap, medal play, tournament for The Carolina trophies. Handicap limited to eighteen in each class, A and B, with cups for the two best net scores in each. March 19. Annual, consolation, match play, handicap, tournament, open only to men and women who have played in one or more previous tourna ments and won no prizes. First and second cups for both men and women. March 26. Spring, match play, handi cap, tournament. Two classes, A and B, with cups for the winner and runner up in each class. Women's medal play event, with cup for best net score. GRAND ANNUAL UNITED NORTH AND SOUTH AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT. April 5-6. Women's championship, with cups for the best net and gross scores in qualification ; "Championship" and runner-up cup for match play rounds. Approaching, putting and driving con tests for men and women, with cups for the winners in each event. April 6, 7, 8. Men's championship, open to all amateur golfers in the United States and Canada, for the United North and South Amateur Championship. Cups for the best net and best gross scores in qualification, and a "championship" and runner-up cup for the first sixteen to qualify for the match play rounds. The eight losers in the first round of match play will play for a Consolation cup. The second and third sixteens to qualify, each to play for cups. April 9. Open Southern Champion ship. Prizes, $150, for professionals ; a gold medal for amateurs. Sunday Service. Sunday services will be held in the Village Hall, each Sunday as follows : Union Sunday mornings at eleven o'clock, except the second Sunday of tlie month, when the service will be held ti' four in the afternoon.
