The sun at Ave o'clock now hides away, And darkness settles down across the lea At Ave we used to just start out to play The days are getting very short, ah me! Now fades the sodded bunker from the sight, While yet the busy throngs toil on in town; Before the dinner bells have rung 'tis night And gloom across the links has settled down. For me no more the nine holes when I'm through With duties of the busy day, no more The hateful losing of a ball or two When children are in bed, their romping o'er. Full many a splendid drive is never made Because the night begins to fall so soon; At four o'clock the day begins to fade Ah, would that we could roll things back to June! Far from the links I toil with sad unrest, When lights begin to glimmer in the street; The sun has long been hidden in the West When I go faring sadly home to eat. No more the luring sandpit yawns for me, The locker holds my clubs and other traps Some men there are who may cut loose at three, Ah, Fate has dealt most kindly with those chaps ! Chicago Record-Herald. SCIECK OF imEATlIIXG. Japanese Have Ierfected Tliem selves in the Art. Why are the Japanese the strongest people in the world, although small in stature? A Japanese has lungs like a horse, and were it the custom in this country they would take a passenger in a chaise as they do in Japan and trot off with him 15 or 20 miles, outwinding an ordinary horse. The secret is that they learn to breathe when young. Any boy of 14 or 15 who will faithfully practice their system of producing strength will find himself, at the end of a few months, able to cope in feats of power with the average man of 25, and all this without the dangerous practice of lifting very heavy weights. The "Japs" also make wrestling their national sport, instead of bull-fighting, baseball and football. They stand erect, draw the abdomen in and throw the chest out. From 20 minutes to half an hour is a long enough time to devote to ' jiu-jitsu," and this includes the time spent in breathing during rests for deep, correct breathing is in itself one of the best exercises possible. The Japanese get the substance of "physical culture" and we are contented with the show Worcester (ilass.) Spy. IS IT THE JKMKA CJIIT f Pinehurst is Fast llecomiiig- a Haven for II rides and CJ rooms. It may be the moonlight for moon light nights here are like the Village, Ideal but be that as it may, Pinehurst is fast becoming a haven for proud grooms and beautiful brides. Late Oc tober found many here, November brought more, December showed a dis tinct advance and January up to the present writing, is holding its own. Several "B's and G's" as they are known in hotel vernacular, are undoubtedly in the Village at this time, but owing to lack of full information The Outlook's society reporter is unable to account for all of them fully. Recent announce ments, however, which have appeared in New York and Boston papers, and letters from "interested friends" which have preceded them, ' account definitely for at least one couple. 9U2W HOOKS FOll 1.1 II II A II Y.
