pleasures are mainly, interesting the visi
tors, hut informal social affairs are well

The Carolina is filling rapidly, and
gradually becoming the centre of many
pleasant social affairs. The week's ar
rivals include many o!d friends and those
who come for the season.
Prominent among the arrivals of the
week is a party including .John 1). Rocke
feller, Xew York, Dr. II. F. Biggar and
Mr. William C. liudd, Cleveland.
Mrs. II. St. John Smith and Miss Smith,
Portland, Maine, return for the season.
Mrs. Smith who has been a visitor here
for many years is a charming woman and
a general favorite.
Mr. and Mrs. J. I). Foot, child and
nurse, Rye, X. Y., are here for a long
sojourn. Mr. Foot has been a frequent
visitor and is an enthusiast over golf and
shooting.
Mrs. Martha A. Lacy and Miss Caroline
I'iicy, Ithica, N. Y., are here for January.
A. M. Moreland, Pittsburg, and Mr. F.
Warren Davis, Philadelphia, were recent
guests.
Mrs. T. I ). Messier, Pittsburg, and Mrs.

ranged for the Season.
Plans for the formation of a local bowl
ing league are progressing favorably and
a series of championship matches will be
arranged for Tuesday and Friday even
ings of each week.
Prizes will be given the winning team
scoring the greatest number of points and
individual trophies will be offered for the
highest three strings and sinsrle string
average.
Wednesday evening The Carolina team
defeated The Village team by a score of
1801 to 1710.

It Aims to If ring: Them Tog-ether for
Sport and Social Affair.
A movement is on foot to start a Club
among the boys of the school, with the
object of bringing them together under
the direction of the teachers, in sports
and social affairs.
It is hoped that a student association
may be formed which will be of present
interest and lasting value. Already the
nucleus of a baseball team has been col
lected, and frequent practice games are
being: had.
At The lenox.
Miss Eliza II. Brown, Brooklyn, and
Miss Lydia Pierce, Philadelphia, are
among recent arrivals at The Lenox.
A clock golf green which is beine-
laid out promises to be much enjoyed.
With the return of a number of last
year's players, croquet is becoming pop
ular again.
