invited guests, and good fellowship
reigned supreme. In the absence of
President C. A. Lockwood, Vice-President
(i. Lee Knight presided.
John Williams and a troupe of caddj--minstrels,
provided the bulk of the even
ing's entertainment, giving songs, dances
and "orchestral selections'' in addition to
".John's" quaint comments which may be
summed up in his opening remark, in
which he likened those not members of
the Tin Whistles, to the man who fell out
of a balloon and when asked what hap
pened, remarked tersely : "Well, I'm not
in it, that's all."
The orchestra was composed of two
pieces, a fiddle and a banjo, and assisted
hy rhythmic hand-clapping, and it fur
nished the motive power for the buck and
wing dancing which was remarkably
good, and the many songs and choruses
which llavored of Darkey land and were
given with much natural harmony.
Pncle Demus contributed to the even
ing's enjoyment with the familiar song
about Pharaoh's daughter:
"Where o where is Pharaoh's daughter;
Went to bathe and the alligator caught her
Far away in the promised land!"
adding several new verses and singing
the chorus in unison with the company.
Mr. W. E. Hervey gave two songs
with banjo accompaniment, which were
warmly received.
At the close of the entertainment pro
gram refreshments were served, cigars
lighted and a time spent in story telling,
chorus singing and sociability.
During the evening the drawings for
Saturday's Kickers Handicap were made
and the winners announced.
