A lMliH of Farm I.it.
Tell mc not in broken measures
Modern farming does not pay,
For a farm produces chickens,
And the hens do they not lay?
Eggs are high and going higher,
And the price is soaring fast;
Every time we get to market
It is higher than the last.
Not a coop but it produces
Every day an egg or two;
So each fanner gains his millions,
Even though the hens be few.
Every egg is very precious,
And the hens are held in awe;
When a hen begins to cackle
Then the farmer goes "Haw, haw !"
In the broad and busy farmyard
Struts a rooster now and then,
Itut the shrewd, bewhiskered farmer
Only notices the hen.
Trust no rooster, howe'er showy
lie the feathers iu bis tail;
Pay attention to the biddies,
Aud your wealth will never fall.
Lives of farmers all remind us
We may roll in wealth some day
If we hustle to the market
With the eggs our pullets lay.

Two School.
I put my heart to school
In the world where men grow wise ;
"Go out," I said, "and learn the rule;
Come back when you win the prize.".
My heart came back again,
"And where is the prize?" I cried.
'The rule was false, and the prize was pain,
And the teacher's name was Pride."
I put my heart lo school
In the woods where wild birds sing,
wi tllw llclds where flowers spring,
aiU Vrooks run 0001 and clear,
And t he blue of heaven bends near.
Go out," I said, "you are only a fool,
isut perhaps they can teach you here.
"fil," 11 y do yu Btay B longi
My , '.,.axt, and where do you roam?"
ine answer came with a laugh and a song
1 tnid this school is home."
