Mm
j HE seventy-one made by-
Professional Alex Ross
recently, is generally re
garded by golfers here,
in view of this season's
lengthening of the course
as the equal if not one stroke better than
the phenomenal sixty-nine, made by
Walter J. Travis, the international .ama
teur champion, last year. The two cards
form an interesting basis for comparison :

There is no doubt, a popular belief
that the claim of insanity as a defense in
murder cases is often used to defeat the
ends of justice. That is evidently the
view of the writer of this little squib
from the Philadelphia Telegraph : '
A young attorney had secured for his
client, an Irishman charged with murder,
a verdict of acquittal on the ground of
icuipui ary insanity.
When he met his client again he said:
"Well, Ilogan, isn't it about time you
gave me that extra two hundred dollars ?"
"Faith, an' what two hoondred is

"The two hundred 'dollars vou prom
ised if I saved that worthless neck of
yours ?"
"Sure an' did Oi promise thot? Oi don't

"WThy certainly you promised it to
me."
Ilogan scratched ins head for a minute
and then with a smile outlawed the claim
with the remark :
"Oh, well, but you know Oi was crazy
