8 THE LARGEST IN HISTORY Number of Early April Guests Breaks all Records of the Past. Hotel ffilledVery Close to Their paclty and little Indication of Diminution. HE largest number of early April guests in his tory is gathered here, the hotels filled very close to their capacity, and little or no indication of dimi nution for some weeks to come. Rare spring days have completely crowded in door social pleasures into the back ground, and brought outdoor pleasures into special prominence. Many are here for the championship tournament, not only those who come to participate, but others who will follow the event as inter ested onlookers. At The Carolina. Gen. and Mrs. Rockwood Hoar and Mr. and Mrs. William E. Riee, Worces ter, Mass., are completing ten days and are delighted with Pinehurst, and plan ning to return again. Gen. Hoar is a son of the late Senator Hoar, and was recent ly elected to Congress from his district. Mr. Rice is one of Worcester's prominent business men and was for many years at the head of the Washburn & Moen Mfg. Co. Mr. and Mrs. William II. Moses, Tilton, N. II., are making a return visit and will remain several weeks. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Johnson and Miss Jane B. Johnson, New York, are here for their annual sojourn. Mr. and Mrs. James A. Vose, New York, are completing a short visit. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Fancher, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Nicola and Mr. II. F. NcNutt, Cleveland, O., are here for a two weeks' stay. Mrs. John Reed Scott and Miss Stew art, Pittsburg, were guests of the week. Mr. N. II. Howell, Newark, N. J., comes for a short stay. Mrs. II. Conant and Miss McPherson, Pawtucket, R. 1., are spending two weeks here. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Richardson, Bos ton, are making a ten days' stay. Mr. Walter C. Baker, Cleveland, O., joins Mrs. Baker. Mr. Dudley Tibbits and Miss Tibbits, Troy, N. Y., will remain some time. Mr. John D. Blair, Hollidaysburg, Pa., is making a return visit. Mrs. Mathewson and Miss Mathewson, Montreal, will remain until well in April. Mr. Harley Roberts. Watertown, and Mr. George Cook Ford, Cleveland, join friends. Miss Mary F. Bryce, New York, and Miss S. M. Gay, Boston, are here for several weeks. Mr. and Mrs. A. II. Watson and Miss Beatrice Watson, New York, are making a ten days' stay. Mr. and Mrs. II. C. Fuller, Mt. Kisco, N. Y., are among the guests. Mrs. A. W. Cook and Mr. A. W. Cook, Jr., Brookville, Pa., and Mrs. L. G. Haines are here to remain until the house closes. Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Whitcomb, Mr. G. H. Cheseborough, New York, and Mr. Eu gene G. Zacker, Buffalo. Whint at The Berkshire. The weekly Whist party at The Berk shire was much enjoyed. Mrs. S. A. Thompson, Norwood, 3lass., was the winner of the first women's prize, and Miss Maude White, Rome, N. Y"., second. The first men's prize was won by Mr. Charles Legg, Boston, and Dr. Arthur Legg, Boston, secured second. Ueart at The Holly. A hearts party at The Holly Inn Friday evening, was well attended and much enjoyed. Miss Elizabeth Eddy, West Newton, Mass., won the first wo men's prize ; Mrs. A. M. Morton, Boston, the second, and Miss Ellen Hart, New York, third. The first men's prize went to Mr. II. L. Caswell, Parkersburg, West Virginia. Mr. R. II. Fleming, Chicago, took second, and Mr. G. II. Converse, Boston, third. flitting- at The lenox. Twenty people participated in a putting contest held recently at The Lenox and many low scores were made. Mr. Arthur M. Allen, Newton Centre, Mass., won the first prize, with 24, Mrs. F. A. Danforth, Norway, Me., second, and Miss Emma B. Josselyn, Lawrence, Mass., third, and Mr. G. R. Wallace, Brooklyn, took fourth.
