Full par ticulars may be secured from a booklet which is now in preparation, and which will be sent out later, on application, to the Pinehurst General Office. v COTTAGE ADDITIONS. The announcement made late in the season, that building lots would be sold in the Village, has created much interest. This announcement is in line with the original intentions of the Management, the lots being sold subject to certain re strictions which will maintain the charac ter of the Village. Several plots of land have been selected by guests who have returned year after year, and who con sider Pinehurst an ideal winter home, and many are already considering defi nite plans for building. . As has been the rule in years past, this season's cottagers will be given the first refusal of cottages for next season. De tailed information will be sent out in August when positive decisions will be necessary. The popularity of this life shows a constant increase and the de mand for these accommodations is always far in excess of the supply, many book ings annually being made from six to eight months in advance. GOLF COURSE IMPROVEMENTS. The aim of the Management regarding the Golf Course, is not only to maintain its reputation as unquestionably the finest in the South, but to make it one of the best courses in the country as well, and with this end in view, extensive work of improvement preparatory for another season, has already been begun. The most important of this work, will be the lengthening of the fifteenth and one or two other holes, in order that the course may be brought up to the six thousand yard, or recognized "championship" length. Additional hazards will be in troduced to increase its attractiveness. The work of seeding last year was most satisfactory and the present spring finds the fair green of the course much improved. Still further improvement is looked for, however, and the reseeding now under way will, undoubtedly, make even a finer turf next year. The new roller, purchased during the season, has proven most satisfactory and contributed an important part in keeping the fair green in fine shape. PINEHURST PRESERVES. The work of planting food supply patches on the Pinehurst Shooting Pre serves, has proven so generally satisfac tory, that this work will be carried out during this summer even more exten sively than in the past. Not only cow peas, but millet and buckwheat will be planted to provide a food supply for the birds. Within the past month, one hundred and fifty dozen quail have been liberated, which it is confidently expected will breed well and greatly improve the shooting next fall. The results achieved at the Kennels are most gratifying and not only are excel lent dogs being produced for the use of visitors here, but they are making splen did showings in field trials throughout the country and finding ready sale among sportsmen. TRAP AND PISTOL SHOOTING. To overcome the objection raised to the background at the shooting grounds in their present location, this department will be moved to a new location, proba bly just south of the A. & A. railroad station. The target pistol butts will also be placed close at hand. When the work is entirely complete, this department will include a shooting or club house, which will be available for the members of both the Gun and Pistol clubs. OUT-DOOR SPORTS. Out-door sports and pleasures will be, given even more prominence next season than' during the past, and golf, tennis, trap and pistol shooting will, be featured with important tournament programs. The success of the various equestrian gymkhana contests during the past win ter, have proven a most pleasing enter tainment feature, and a series of these novel events will be arranged for the coming season. HOTEL OPENINGS. The various hotels of the system will be under the same management next season as this. The Holly Inn will be the first to open, the date being either November 11th or 15th. Manager .Robinson of The Lenox, however, plans to have his house in readiness to receive guests about the middle of October, so that ample provi sion will be made for those who desire to enjoy the beauties of the early season. Dr. Montgomery A. Crockett, and either Dr. George S. Hill or his partner, Dr. Herbert J. Hall, will return as resi dent house physicians. TRANSPORTATION FACILITIES. The transportation facilities for reach ing Pinehurst, are increasing each year. During the season past the Seaboard Air Line has run daily parlor cars and tri weekly sleepers direct to the Village, and the Southern Railway a daily sleeper, and next season arrangements will be even more satisfactory. HANDICRAFT SHOP AND LIBRARY. The introduction of Southern handi craft work at The Casino, has proven a great success, so much so that the Pine hurst Handicraft Shop will be made a permanent feature of the Village. Under new management, the Pinehurst Library has taken an important place during the season, and plans for its fur ther improvement are under way. DEPARTMENT STORE AND PHARMACY. The marked improvements in the equipment and management of the De partment Store and Pharmacy, has been most favorably commented upon during the season and visitors have shown their appreciation by liberal patronage.
