Oayety at Old Point.
Old Point Comfort, Va., Feb. 5
With bright sunshine and the delight
fully tempered salt air, the discomforts
of the northern climate are soon forgot
ten here and out of doors sports and
pleasures, walking, boating, golf, tennis,
horseback riding, and automobiling are
much in evidence.
Social pleasures, however, have not
been neglected, four of the six nights of
the week being devoted to either hop or
cotillion, at The Chamberlin.
On Thursday the Senior assembly of
Xewport News, held the first of its
dances, two hundred and fifty invitations
being issued, and early morning witness
ing the end. The ball room was richly
decorated and the scene was one of un
usual brillianc5r.
Among: those in the receiving; line was

sel for the Jamestown exposition ; Mrs.
Booker, of Hampton and the Misses
Hampton; Mrs. Fred Gauntlet; Mrs.

and Saturday, the. usual hops.
Informal social pleasures included the
entertainment of the Monday afternoon
card club at euchre, by Mrs. George F.
Adams, nine tables being necessary.
The fifth division of the Cruiser squad
ron is here after duty round about San
Domingo, and it is a pleasure to welcome
the officers, many of whom have been
stationed here.

At JTackion Spring-.
Jackson Springs, N. C, Feb. 5
The season here is well under way and
sports and pleasures out of doors are pro
viding enjoyable entertainment. One of
the pleasant events of the week past was
an old fashioned rabbit hunt in which
the guests generally joined. Tony, the
leader of the hounds, soon had "Molly
Cotton Tail" going and the music was
good to hear. After several good runs
the hounds were called off and the hunt
ers returned to the hotel well laden.
Fishing is a popular- sport, with the
usual attendant luck and the golf links
are being put in shape in anticipation of
future play. Bowling, tennis, croquet
and other sports and pastimes are much
enjoyed.
The spring continues to be a rendez
vous for Pinehursfs guests, many of
whom, are included among the transient
visitors. Among those who have regis
tered recently are : D. N. Clark, J. W.
Rogers, Mr. and Mrs. W. II. Graham,

Palm Beach Out of Door.
Palm Beach, Fla., Feb. 5 The
season has been a bit late in starting, but
crowded trains are the rule now, and the
hotels are filling rapidly, many old and
new friends making up the big list of
arrivals.
The motor boat races have by no means
crowded out door pleasures into the back
ground, and golf, fishing, boating, base-
ball, and other sports are each receiving
their share of attention. Surf bathing
has never been more generally indulged
in.
Dances, card parties, dinners and other
formal and semi-formal events are com
ing into prominence as the season ad
vances.
