Girls You Know Portrayed hy Vivid Impersonations of Well Known Actresses in favorite Holes. IIURSDAY evening's living pictures, for the benefit of the Dickinson colored school, provided a delightful evening's entertainment at T h e Carolina, filling the music hall to its ex treme capacity. The program was announced simply as "girls you know," impersonations of well known actresses by twelve young women representing the fairest of the fair in the Village, and a series of artistic and striking reproductions resulted. Of ap plause there was a continuous round and encores were the rule. Over two hun dred dollars was netted as a result of the entertainment, and its success has led thus early to a demand for its repeti tion. THE PROGRAM. Mrs. Eugene Walker of Richmond, Ky., in the conventional white gown and cap, as "Nurse Marjorie," was a refresh ing and truthful type. Miss Ethel Barroll of Philadelphia, as Fritzie Scheff in "Mile. Modiste," was fascinating in a decollete gowii of black, with jet trimmings, and black picture hat. Miss Pauline Firth of Boston, as Ethel Barrymore in "Captain Jinks," was charming in decollete gown of spangled white, with rosebud trimmings and hair ornaments. Miss Elienn Malloy of Stamford, as Elsie Janis in "The Vanderbilt Cup," gowned in a white autoing costume, with white sailor hat and flowing veil, was typical of the smart American girl of the age; a vivid and striking picture. Mrs. Herbert L. Jillson of Worcester, as Edna May in "The Belle of New York," gowned in blue, with white neck kerchief and poke bonnet, with its dash of red and flowing tie, was a familiar and truthful likeness of a pretty "Salvation Army" girl. Miss Ada Pollard of Pittsburg, as Maud Adams in "The Little Minister," in black skirt, white waist, plaid sash, beads and hair ornaments, made a dainty gypsey maiden. Mrs. Channing M. Wells of South bridge, was bewitching as Elsa Szamosy in "Mine. Butterfly," gowned in an ex quisitely embroidered lavender kimona, with fan, parasol and hair ornaments. Miss Lucy K. Priest of Boston, as Blanche Bates in "The Girl of the Golden West," gowned in kahki skirt, blouse waist and with cartridge belt, revolver and sombrero, was a vivid reproduction of a now familiar type. Mrs. Lowell Palmer, Jr., of Brooklyn, was stunning as Maxine Elliot in "Her Great Match," in a decollete gypsey cos tume of beribboned and bespangled black, with red poppy hair ornaments. with powdered hair, white picture hat and gold headed staff. The closing numbers were six pictures in which Miss Winants and Miss Malloy, Mrs. Jillson and Miss Priest, Mrs. Walker and Miss Barroll, Miss Sousa and Miss Pollard, Mrs. Palmer and Mrs. Wells, and Miss Spain and Miss Firth posed in couples. Details of arrangement were in the hands of an active committee, including Mrs. Palmer, Mrs. Wells and Miss Bar roll. Mrs. I. C. J., as Adele Bitchie in "The Social Whirl," dressed in tailor-made riding costume of black, with bailor hat and crop, was a striking reproduction of the class of out door girl Pinehurst sees much of. Miss Helen Sousa of New York, as Anna Held in "The Parisian Model," gowned in decollete gown of spangled white, with black picture hat, possessed all of the chic and dash of the original model ; one of the most striking like nesses of the evening. Miss Olive M. Spain of New York, was radiant as Lillian Pussell in "Lady Teazle," gowned in decollete white and Mr. J. E. Porter of Pittsburg, guarded the ticket box. The Carolina orchestra furnished music during the evening, and a megaphone kept the audience posted as to what was taking place. Natives of Maine Iteiinion. The annual reunion of the present and former residents of the state of Maine, now residing or visiting in this vicinity, will be held at the Baptist Church, Southern Pines, Tuesday next, March 12, at 2M0 v. m. An interesting program has been arranged and all are cordially invited to attend. STATE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOOT Annual D. S. R. A. Tournaments Booked for Week to Come. Association Silver and Ilronze Vledals Offered in Iloth Jlevolver and Tlstol Cvents. MONG the good things in store for devotees of pistol shooting in the im mediate future, is the annual State Champion ship shoot of the Uuited States Bevolver Association which will, as usual, be held here from March 18th to 25th inclusive, for silver and bronze medals .offered by the National Associa tion. . The distance will be twenty yards and the target the regulation two and three quarters inch bullseye, fifty shots being lired in strings of live shots each at ten different targets. The usual entrance fee of live dollars for each contestant has been reduced this season to three dollars for those who do not care to shoot for national honors at the same time, and there will be both pistol and revolver events. Beentries will not be accepted. Interest in pistol shooting here has never been more keen and this year's State Championship promises to be one of the. most interesting of an important series. Entries should be made at once with Herbert L. Jillson, secretary of the local pistol club, under whose direction the North Carolina shoot will be held. Upon March 25th the annual Club Championship tournament of the local club is scheduled and gold medals are offered for both; men and women. This event will be fifty shots at lifty yards at the standard American target. Cards Announcing- Their Engagement are Ileing; Jleceived. Mrs. James Theodore Capel of Pitts burg, is sending out cards announcing the engagement of her daughter, Miss Emilie Eliza, to Mr. Cecil Henry Hames of London, England.
