golf here ; a feature which plays an im
portant part in making Pinehurst attract
ive to the fair sex.
Keen scores ruled, only twenty-two
points, an average of one point per pair,
separating the first score from the last;
Mr. John E. Porter of Pittsburg, and
Mrs. Herbert L. Jillson of Worcester,
playing with an allowance of seven
strokes, winning first with a card of
ninety net, and also making the best
gross score of the day. Second in line
were Mr. J. D. Foot of Rye, and Mrs. A.
F. Rodgers of Toronto, whose handicap
was four, who scored ninety-four net,
and ninety-eight gross.
Mr. J. C. Head and Miss Elkins of
Pittsburg (8), were third in ninety-six,
Mr. and Mrs. G. II. Converse of Boston
(9), and Mr. L. E. Wardwell of Camden,
Me., and Miss Ethel Check of New York
(4), tying for fourth position at ninety-
seven each, with a quadruple tie at
ninety-eight for fifth place. The trophies
were sterling cups presented by Mr. II.
W. Priest and Mr. A. I. CreAtner, and
gold medals offered by the Club.
