TAYLOR, WINNER HIGH AVERAGE GOLD MEDAL awarded for the best scores in the ssix hundred targets shot at, from sixteen yards, the sweepstakes, in which New comb led with five hundred and forty-six or ninety-one per cent. Westcott was second in five hundred and thirty-six or eighty-nine and one third per cent, and Dr. Culver third in five twenty-nine or eighty-eight and a half per cent. In a similar event for the professionals with first and second trophies, Taylor won with five hundred and sixty-seven, Welles second in five hundred and fifty-eight and Lyon third in five hundred and fifty-two. The special amateur trophy for the best score of the entire program of eight hundred targets, was won by Westcott with sev en hundred and thirteen ; Newcomb sec- waged as targets were won or lost, all because of an indefinable something which the shooters "feel" but cannot express. In some cases low averages were due to the wind which made the targets erratic. MIDWINTER HA NDIC A r AMATEURS HDP-YDS 100 TQT8 C. II. Newcomb, Phlla. 1923 22 20 2388 C.
