Confident the hunt mov ed off with but short preliminaries, a back to starting point and a dash over the old course, the final coupe a refresh ing swim in Little river to hide a trail which was quickly picked up on the opposite bank, and it became only a question of time. Then the wild sight cry of ''Driver" and "Milly" harked the pack and shortly after, a brother of "Sandy, Ked Fox and Fleet," had run his last race. Mr. II. M. C. Low of Kansas City,is the proud possessor of the brush ; the pace too fast except for the "cavalry squad". Yes, there was another hunt; but please don't mention it. "Pesky 01' Pol' Cat" is all Nat will say,and as for Master Twitty; well, you best remember what we say in the opening sentence don't mention it. The fact is, however, that Mister Cat was "met" as he strolled peacefully along a wood's pathway, and of course, it was "thought" that he was a fox. if ever there was an object lesson of the fumilar proverb "you see what thought did" this particular hunt got it ; then and for keeps."I do wished I cud erhad er pictur'of us er comin'hum,' PINEHURST) IjACHTCURJ t r pti .ri m u -"k s$ ,. -r-. Moore trail being struck just outside the south ease gate which swung away as plain as a boulevard, past reynard's morning feast on a rabbit and on to a persim mon tree for dessert. About this time the fox must have become conscious of the fact that he was the object of atten tion and the fun began, the scent warm ing and hunt and pack swinging into a gallop with deep baying and loud halloo. On the trail swuug, turning and twisting, doubling and back-tracking, crossing and recrossing, but always plain, and never for a moment did pace or music cease, for nearly three hours as it shifted from forest to hillside or sank to plain or swamp. Then a brief pause, as a clever ruse to hide the trail was unravell ed and overconfident reynard was flee ing for his life with the pack almost in sight. Four miles nearly straight away, he led over most trying country in an attempt to "wind the pack." Then off to the right for two miles, a zig-zag at a tangent for an equal distance, a swing Nat admitted on close questioning, but now he insists he never said it ! JLN ST.
