VOL. XV, NO. 17 SATURDAY MORNING, MARCH 30, 1912 FIVE CENTS THEY DANCED BY MOONLIGHT Annual Spring Cotillion is Delightfully Suggestive of the Season Decoration, figures and Favors Com bine to Make tbe Affair Winter's Merriest Dance DELIGHTFULLY sug gestive of the season was the annual Spring Cotillion at The Caro lina, providing one of the merriest evenings of the winter not alone for the dancers, but a com pany of spectators which bestowed liberal applause in expres sion of appreciation. Daintily decorated in floral garlands, the music hall was as refreshing as an open air garden, the ef fect heightened by the garlands carried in the opening march led by the little Misses Margaret Good, Norma Morgan, Winifred Croft and Eleanor Croft. Of surprises there were many, among them a glorious "moon," by the light of whose mellow glow four numbers were danced; weirdly beautiful the kaleido scope of color and motion. The figures were mainly jolly romps with the men's ballet (In Paree), the women's scaif dance (From Cario) and the sack race in hobble form, under the guise of "Spring Modes are Stunning," most amusing in the "Peek a Boo" two step or cur tain figure, rag dolls for partners created a ripple of laughter and "The Modern Woman" was surely in advance of her time, armed with huge razors which were the keys to partners. Broken hearts were also "mended" before dancing could be begun and playing cards matched. The attractive favors included boutonnieres of lillies of the valley and peach blossom crush opera hats and turbans, and other showy trifles. Several PaulJones circles were enjoyed and there were the usual noise makers, as well as confetti. Mr. Paul E. Gardner and Miss Caroline W. Fuller and Mr. E. L. Scofield, Jr., and Miss Priscilla Beall assisted Mr. and Mrs. Justus Kendall in leading. At the favor booths were Mrs. L. M. Hart and Mrs. A. H. Wetten, Mrs. B. H. Marshall and Mrs. J. H. Northrup. Ices were served at intermission and the music catchy and appropriate. Dancing were : Mr. Scofield, Miss Beall ; Mr. Paul Gard ner, Miss Fuller; Mr. Ralph Gardner, Miss Ballantyne; Mr. W. S.
