Albany was the win
ner of Saturday's final
round in the annual
women's tennis singles
for the Washington's
birthday cups, with a
H 61, 62 victory over
Miss Jeanne Pushee of
Brae Burn, fin the semi-final, Mrs.
Huyck defeated Mrs. Harriet Nauman of
Lancaster. 62, 60, and Miss Pushee
was victorious over Miss Aline Davis of
Tenafly by 62, 62.
In the second round, Mrs. Huyck won
by 61, 60 from Miss C. Doris Small
of York. In the bracket below Mrs.
Nauman and Miss Pushee both had a
hard match, the former winning by 2 6,
75, 62 from Miss Agnes Blancke of
Montclair. Miss Pushee advanced on
the default of Miss II. Sanchris of St.
Paul, and Miss Davis defeated Miss Alice
Presbrey of New York, 60, 61.
In the first round, Mrs. Huyck de
feated Miss M. Gail Stephens of Detroit,
61, 60 ; Miss Pushee, Miss Edith Bar
nett of New Haven, 75, 62; Mrs.

Tennis and Putting- Hound Out a
Never-to-be-Forgotten Week
The week has been one never to be
forgotten for the children, rounded out
with a tennis tournament and putting
competitions for prizes presented by Mr.
D. L. Anderson, Mrs. J. G. Nicholson
and Mrs. H. W. Priest, f To little Miss
Olive Hutchinson the colony is indebted
for the tennis tournament, for it was
through her interest and energy that the
prizes were contributed and the arrange
ments made. The events included
singles for both boys and girls, and
mixed doubles, and the list of entries:
Masters Albert Tufts, Stacy Robeson,
James Mundy, Rodney Heuman and
Misses Olive Hutchinson, Eleanor Abbe,
Louise Hegeler, Sarah Smith and Grace
Franklin.
In the finals of the mixed doubles
Albert Tufts and Olive Hutchinson de
feated Herman Hegeler and Sarah Smith.
Stacy Robeson won the boys' singles
from James Mundy, and Grace Franklin
the girls' singles from Olive Hutchinson,
f In the putting competitions the prize
winners were James Mundy, Olive
Hutchinson and. Lambert JSplane, who
won firsts ; Robert Cleaves and Eleanor
Croft, who won seconds; and Phelps
Hunter and Elizabeth Fletcher, who
were awarded consolation trophies.

Village Club Bridge Announced for
Wednesday of Coming Week
The Village Club announce a card
party at " Box Court, " the home of Mrs.
Tyler L. Redfield, on Thursday, March
6th, at 2.30 p.m. for the benefit of the
Pinehurst Chapel, f The Subscription
will be $1.00 each, and auction biidge and
five hundred will both be played.
Participants may make their own
tables or they will be placed by the
Committee, f Please send acceptances
to Miss Cummings or Miss Priest at The
Carolina not later than Wednesday,
March 5th.
Silver Foils Specials
A driving competition for prizes pre
sented by Mrs. R. C. King and Mr.
Charles B. Fownes was a novelty much
enjoyed by the Silver Foils, f Three
drives were permitted, the total distance
counting. Mrs. C. II. Vanderbeck was
first with 519 yards, and Miss Shannon
second with 489. Mrs. Worth made 396
yards; Miss Blancke, 384; Miss Elkins,
365 ; Mrs. Randall, 363 ; Miss Brown and
Mrs. Rae, 335; Miss Hutchinson, 330;
Mrs. Baile, 309 ; Mrs. Brinton,300; Mrs.
Ormsbee, 285 and Mrs. Check, 243.
f Miss Elkins was the winner of a put
ting and approaching competition for a
prize presented by Mr. Donald J. Ross.
Fox. Slunt Finishes on Foot
The week's best fox hunt was one of
the most exciting of the season with the
finish of a long run in a miry swamp
where the horses could not enter and
into which the riders dismounted and
plunged, cutting in at just the moment
of the kill. Mr. Speir and Miss Riley
divided honors in the "foot race." f The
coming week concludes the season.
Illack's Mills tlie Destination
Mr. and Mrs. Foster, Mr. and Mrs.
Hegeler, Mr. and Mrs. Cummings, the
Mesdames Smith, Pillsbury, Sherwood,
De Bower, the Misses Burrage, Elizabeth
and Clara Reed, Hegeler, Smith, Cum
mings, Whiting, Finney, Mundy and the
Messrs. Foreman and Hegeler made up a
merry party who enjoyed a jolly eques
trian picnic at Black's Mills.
Auction II ridge at Tlie Inn
Auction bridge was enjoyed at The
Holly Inn on Thursday last, five dainty
prizes being offered, which Mrs. Robert
Olmsted of Condersport, Miss Mary A.
Adams of Springfield, Miss Helma A.
Payne of Philadelphia, Mrs. R. C.
Blancke of Essex Fells, and Miss Grace
Franklin of New York won.
Guest of Mr, and Mrs. Thrift
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ross and Mr.
Alec Ross were guests of Mr. and Mrs.
R. W. Thrift of Lima at dinner at The
Holly Inn on Sunday.
