PARKER W. Whitte
more of the Brookline
Country Club, the quali
fication medalist, romped
through an easy winner
of the thirteen-division,
two - hundred-and - fifty
entry, tenth annual
Spring golf tournament.
Arden M. Robbins, the Garden City and
Bar Harbor expert, was first to strew
roses in the victor's path, retiring five
down and four to play, and W. II. Faust
of the Buffalo Country Club was equally
generous in the second round. J. S.
Hirding of the Oakmont Club was not
quite so well disposed, but he lost three
down and one to play, advancing Whitte
more to a four and three final victory
over Irving S. Robeson of the Oak Hill
Country Club in a match which was much
closer than the score indicates.
Robeson's twenty-hole win from Char
ton L. Becker of the Woodland Golf Club
was the only first division contest which
really thrilled the gallery. One down at
the turn, the Rochester golfer was all
square on the tenth and he held his own
with halves on the eleventh and twelfth.
Losing the' thirteenth, he won the four
teenth, halved the fifteenth and gained
the lead on the sixteenth, but lost the
seventeenth. A halve on the eighteenth
carried the match to the nineteenth where
Robeson missed a putt and gave Becker
a three-foot opportunity to win which he
failed to embrace, and Becker's poor tee
shot on the twentieth gave Robeson the
match and the hole, 4 6. f Robeson's
second round win was three and one from
hisclubmate, R. C. Shannon, 2d, and in
the first round, he defea-ed T. B. Boyo
of Bellerieve by five and four.
Robert Hunter of Wee Burn is indebted
to Becker for his place in the consola
tion, and a game fight the final was which
the horn green decided. Hunter's first win
was three and two from G. A Miller of
Detroit, and his second, seven and five
from David T. Leahy of Deal. In the
final he found Robbins a worthy foe and
the pair were neck and neck to the home
green where Hunter was victorious by
one up. T Semi-final and final rounds in
the remaining eleven divisions developed
keen play, two ending on the home green,
three on the seventeenth, and four requir
ing extra holes.
There were prize for division winners
and runners-up, and consolation winners
throughout all divisions, with special
trophies for the winners in two overflow
consolation eights, the list exclusive of
the first division, including the following :
