It THE PINEHURST OUTLOOK Eleanor Gates (Concluded from page three) stantial margin of 6, her 95 being the only card under 100. Miss Gertrude Thurston of Westhamp ton whose position close under the guns we ventured to predict some time ago held second place, her score of 101 being three better than that returned by Mrs. J. D. Cliapman of Greenwich, a leading player of the Silver Foils. Mrs. F. H. Mahan of St. Davids landed fourth with 106, one better than Miss Carolyn Bogart of Pinehurst, Mrs. Landauer of Woodmont and Mrs. Spencer AVaters of Ardsley. Mrs. Waters put up a strong game against the winner in the frst round only losing on the 18th ereen. Miss Gertrude Thurston came into the semi-finals after a smashing victory over Miss Bogart, and went down before the champion, 4 and 3. Mrs. Hurd came through to the finals in ex pected form after interesting matches with Mrs. Landauer (4 and 2) and Mrs. J. D. Chapman (6 and 5). Mrs. F. S. Danforth of North Fork established her unques tioned superiority in the second division, and won the Governors' trophy in good style by defeating Mrs. Edward Worth of Spring liaven 8 and 7, Miss Eleanor Abbe of Bethlehem 4 and 2, Mrs. J. D. Armstrong of Buffalo 7 and 5. Mrs. J. G. Splane is credited with the Captain's trophy. She met Mrs. F. V. Long of Scioto in the final round, and by a steady, accurate and consistent game -ame off victorious on the 14th green. Miss Caroline Fuller of Ardsley gave her the closest game in the three days' play, "holding the match in doubt until the last putt was sunk under the shadow of the Club House. The fourth division ended in royal battle between Mrs. E. B. Hempstone of Monmouth and Mrs. Washington Lincoln of Gettysburg fame. It was one of those even and vacillating matches which bring all hands breathless to the 18th green, and reduce the whole afternoon's play into a single heartrending putting match. In this Mrs. Hempstead had a slight advantage gained down the fairway with her mid iron, which she converted into j the trophy. - Played on number one course. SUMMARY ' QUALIFYING ROUND Mrs. J. V.
