THE PINEHURST OUTLOOK

JL II I Q 1 A. Y
BveryMlJ to lie wt Eureka on
Wttaliingrton'i Birthday
plant' are being made a long way in
. advance for a great community meeting
at the Farm Life School, Friday, Feb
ruary 22, 1918. People from all over
jMoore County and the Sandhill section
will be present.
The meeting "will be one that will be
remembered. There are various reasons
for it. For one thing, it "will be a big
visiting day for all who have relatives in
the school. A special effort wil be made
to give all the visitors a clearer concep
tion of what the school is and just what
it is doing. Colonel Roosevelt thinks
this school worthy of a chapter in one of
his recent books. The representative of
the national bureau of education inspect
ed this school of ours not lo'ng ago and
reported that the work it is doing en
titled it to a place very near the top of
the list in the ranking of all the schools
of this kind in the whole South. "Cook
up your beaver," man, and be a little
prouder of our part of the world every
time Urn school is mentioned. It is a
whale of an asset to us all. The pity
of it is that so many of us know so little
about what is really being done. That's
one reason for the big meeting.
HOW IT WILL BE DONE
Just what is to be done? Well, first of
all, the weather is going to be perfect,
but the plans are being so made that
even if satan should slip in a bad day
the merriment and good work will not
be balked. The students who are invit
ing all their friends and relatives are
going to furnish the main part of the
performance. They will have everything
in full swing and see that nothing lags
from the start to the stop. The people
of the Eureka community will rise to
the occasion as they always do and will
help things along. Committees wil devote
the day to showing the multitude every
thing from the cow barn to the sewing
room and from the wood pile to the kitch
en range. There will be some speeches
and they will be short ones. They will
be made by folks who are worth listening
to. At noon a basket dinner will be
served in the big dining room. It will be
supplemented by Mary Rankin. Coffee
furnished by the school. As we depart
along towards sundown we shall all feel
that we have had an introduction to a
unique institution and that at least one
toy of our earthly pilgrimage has been
""'ell spent.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING
To group. of teachers however compe
tent, no donation of money no matter
how big, no amount of careful planning
l'y a group of directors can make a
school fully succeed. The important
wng is that every one have an interest
it. Visitors who come to this section
have taken interest in this school be
cause they see that we home folks are in
tamest about it. It is up to us to do
our level best now and in the future as
have done in the past if others are to
take an interest and lend a hand. If
the school is to increase in usefulness
then we must increase our interest in it
and our help to it. If ever the home
folks fail to back it to their limit with
their time, their - money, their interest,
and their work then its usefulness will
wane and all the money of the continent
could not make it what it now is and
what it should be.
ORGANIZATIONS INVITED
The Woman's Auxiliary will be pres
ent in full force. The Farmers' Union
which agitated for schools of this sort
will be invited to devote Washington's
Birthday to inspecting the establishment.
All the club boys and girls of the county
are invited to come and see if this is the
school they wish to attend next year.
Other schools will be asked to come and
compare their work with ours. Women's
Clubs, Civic Clubs, School Trustees,
Mayors and other local officers, the vari
ous lodges of the section, etc., etc., will
all be asked to come and enjoy the day.
