A remarkable variety of motives have impelled the inhabitants of this coun try to buy Liberty Bonds. Most people have been actuated by patriotic impulses. Others have bought the bonds solely because they thought them a good investment. Others have bought them out of deference to the opinion of their neighbors and be cause it was the correct thing to do. So far, however, I have not met any one who admitted that he had bought his bonds out of deference to the opinion of Germany, and this leads me to be lieve that everything German is at so much of a discount in this country at present that few Americans care a rap what Germany thinks about anything. It is my own profound conviction that there is nothing on earth so important, just now, as the German people's opinion of our nation.
