Mrs. Francis Keating, Mr. Donald Boss,
Golf, spelled in capital leters, will
flourish in America from now on be
yond the thoughts and dreams of even
the most optimistic. The war has
drawn into active work thousands and
thousands of men and women who never
believed that they could work so hard;
the Red Cross efforts, the various war
relief activities, numerous in variety
and scope, have been the means of drag
ing from their accustomed shells hun
dreads of thousands of men and women
who hitherto have been well content to
stay at home and read the society or
local news with never a dream that they
were able to do-some, useful bit.
Now that the great needs are over I
do not for a moment think that these
good people ay 111 be content to go back
irito their non-active existence. They
will want a medium for their revived
spirits. Nowhere will they find such
an opportunity as on the links and at
the club.
We will have need for more relief
matches next season, I have no doubt,
and the experience of the new members
will also be of service. I look for an
increase all over the land of forty to
fifty thousand new players. I am glad
to see that the figures given out nowa
days concerning the number of players
which . we have in this country are on
the reasonable side. The guesses about
the millions of golfers in this country
have been no longer set before the
public. As a matter of fact, there are
c.bout tAvo million or so golfers in the
Avhole Avorld, and as another matter of
record Ave would estimate the number
of golfers in the United States ten
rears from now as being easily 800.000
to 850,000and in another span of twen
ty years there will be in this country
almost onehalf the golfers in the world.

THE DOG SHOW RECEIVES
.. .. VERY LIBERAL SUPPORT
It is surprising the amount of interest
and enthusiasm the coming Dog Show,
to be held at the race track on April 2
and 3, has aroused. Every mail brings to
the Secretary assurances of additional
entries of famous dogs. The latest news
is that a well known team of English
bulldogs is on its way to America, and
that they will be shown for the first time
in this country at the Pinehurst show.
Another very encouraging feature and
one for which the show committee is
particularly grateful is the number and
beauty of the Sterling Trophies that
have been donated for competition. Over
$1,500 in cash prizes and over $1,000
worth of Sterling Trophies are listed In
the Premium List and make it worth
Avhile for anyone to enter their dogs at
our show.
