THE, PINEHUEST OUTLOOK VOL. XXIII. NO. 7 JANUARY 28, 1920 PRICE 10 CENTS Everything is Peaches Down in Pinehurst Partially as a result of the large divi dends paid by the bearing orchards in the section, and partially induced by the evidence of the five senses viewing the hundreds of acres of peaches that sprang into bloom on the outskirts of Pinehurst this last Spring, there has been a vigorous market for orchards and peach land in this vicinity that is at the present writing reaching its climax. The dividends on record for last year's crops were satisfactory to all hands, not forgetting the Government of the United States. The Candor Com pany paid its stockholders 80 per cent, after satisfying the U. S. Treasury which in itself was no mean perfor mance. The Carolina had to be satisfied with 20 per cent. the Kennedy orchard paying 50 per cent. Whatever the cause, there has been a consistent development out Garran Hill way. The - Page orchard and Nat Hurd's were combined and sold to a $100,000 corporation backed by T. S. Fuller of New York and Col. William H. Osborne of Greensboro. They took in a choice section of wild land which is now being cleared for future plantings. New packing houses and a hotel for packers will be ready for the harvest. The property lies within a mile of the Carolina Hotel, and when completed will be the largest orchard property in the State. Ralph Page is resident director, Frank Smith is Superintendent in charge, N. S. Hurd is Secretary and Angus E. Mason Treasurer. The Newcotnb orchards adjoining have also been combined under the di rection of C. P. Mason, with Prim Bilyeau, of Southern Pines, Superin tendent. Meanwhile every available man and mule has been busy getting ready for new plantings. Lee Page and Carl Buehan bought 360 acres of the long plateau that runs from C. T. Crockers, down Sandy Run to the Jackson Springs road. They have built a new highway out there and have cleared up 60 acres of land and have several buildings al ready completed. Jack Latting, who holds another 350 acres opposite the Dana farm, . has opened up a tract and is this minute hunting the elusive carpenter and the elusive well digger, preparatory to joining the peach brigade. Incidentally ho has sold 100 acres to a syndicate from Southern Pines, who want to get into the game. - Beyond that, the ridge is all taken UP- Dr. M. W. Marr acquired 200 acres including the old Medlin Planta (Continued on Page Nine) lb f I ' iO f j: f? n 'A i k-'j i'A . .a Wn :: A ; - u : - rjs-: ; r ; f . G. N. Fish, Geo. C. Wright, C. H.
