Tryon Co. 609-611 MARKET STREET 10-12 NO. 6th STREET PHILADELPHIA High Grade Guns and Rifles Fishing Tackle Athletic Goods, Camping Goods Clothing: Sweaters Cutlery. .Established... 1811 PREPARATIONS are already under way for the coming Horse Show, to be held by the Pinehurst Jockey Club on its grounds at the Race Track, Tuesday, April 6th. This annual show is easily the best show south of the Mason-Dixon line. Pinehurst is the winter home of a large number of horse fanciers. There is prob ably more horse back riding and fox hunting in Pinehurst than at any other resort, and there is no doubt more horse racing here than elsewhere in the South. Pinehurst has likewise become the resort of horse trainers, who bring fast horses here for the winter. Mr. Cox and Mr. Hyde are conspicuous examples. Pine hurst is still talking about the Wednes day races; Joe Guy, The Bondsman and Eliza Dillon gave an exhibition the like of which Pinehurst has never seen. If Eliza Dillon were to start around the track at Charter Oak Park this after noon she would run into about eighteen feet of snow banked up at the turn, and the going would be rough. It is clear, therefore, that Pinehurst possesses the necessary background, the equipment and the following which is essential to a first-class show, and it is not surprising that the Pinehurst Jockey Club occupies a prominent place in the world of horses. The officers of the club are: N. S. Hurd, President, R. C. Shannon, 2nd, Vice-President, and C. W. Picquet, Secretary. The Stewards a most au gust body are: H. G. Phillips, H. W. Waring and Leonard Tufts. Those serving as judges at the Horse Show are: Mr. Charles H. Hurkamp, hunters; Mr. Fred B. Shreve, harness and running horses; Mr. Charles Hollo way, saddle horses; Captain A. Loftus Bryan, polo ponies; and Messrs. James and Jackson H. Boyd; with Mr. Nat Hurd as substitute judge.
