Spencer organizer of fox hunts and riding parties Miss Billy Buntin, of Toronto, and Miss Esther Tufts, caught by our ubiquitous photographer Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Baxter, of Port "Washington, N. Y., entertained a partj of thirteen at tea at the Club House on Friday. The party included Mrs. and Miss Conger, Mrs. and Miss Acker, Mrs. Pritchard, Miss Small, Mrs. Workman, Miss Bennett, Dr. Sprague, Dr. Riggs, Mr. Porteous and a few visitors from Southern Pines. Major Earl Bedell, of the Royal Fly ing Corps, Knighton, Wales, is expected at the Holly Inn Friday morning. Mr. Bedell will remain in Pinehurst indefi nitely. .. Mr. and Mrs. George N. Towle, of Boston, entertained at dinner a party of four at The Berkshire. The party was composed of Mr. and Mrs. Tyler Red field, Mr. and Mrs. J. Redfield, of Green wich, Conn. Mrs. J. S. Pritchard, well known in golf circles, of Battle Creek, Michigan, arrived last week accompanied by her friend, Miss Edith Small. They are reg istered at the Holly Inn and will prob ably remain with us for sometime. It is expected that Mrs. Pritchard will par ticipate in the coming North and South Tournament. Bridge is a popular pastime at the Holly Inn every Thursday evening. The past week eleven tables were in ac tion. Mrs. F. Newton won the first prize for women, while Mr. F. G. Butler dis posed of the prize for men and won first prize in his division. Mrs. Alex Work man won the consolation prize for wo men with Mr. E. E. Beals the winner of the consolation prize in the men's di vision. Mrs. J. P. Cope entertained seven at a dinner party at the Carolina on Tues day last. The party included Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Riehle, Mrs. J. M. Riehle, Mr. Fred Riehle, Mrs. Heide and her son. Miss Katherine Kolb worked the "heroine" act at the drag hunt last Friday afternoon. In going over the hurdles in the woods the horses were bunched together and a spill resulted, in which three young ladies were thrown to the ground and their horses ran astray. Miss Kolb was, however, "Johnny on the Spot" and after helping two of the young ladies up, went after the run away horses like a Wild Indian. The drag hunt on Friday afternoon was a repetition of the usual good time. Among those who accompanied Mrs. Spencer were Miss Peters, Mrs. Silver throne, Miss Kolb, Warren Bicknell, Miss Grady, Miss Buntin, Miss Nichols, Mrs. Morse, Mr. Stalter, Mr. Elms, Mr. Thomas and Mr. Sugden. Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Souther are reg istered at the Carolina, having arrived here Monday, after a visit to the Ponce de Leon, at St. Augustine, Florida. They will remain here for at least two weeks. Mr. and Mrs! G. W. Reynolds are ex pected at the Carolina sometime within the next week. This is their second trip to Pinehurst this season and they wijl remain here for a. month. . Mrs. F. C. Hood, of Brookline, Mass., entertained four guests at luncheon at the Carolina, Friday last. Mr. and Mrs. A. T. MacDermott, well known Philadelphians, who were spend ing a few weeks here as guests at the Carolina, took their departure March 1. They will be greatly missed by various hunting parties. Mrs. J. V. Hurd is occupying the ; Roanoke, which was left vacant by the Boyds, who returned to St. Louis last week. Mrs. W. A. Gavin, New York Metro politan Women's Golf Champion, ar rived here last week and registered at the Carolina. She will take part in the various important tournaments. Mrs. Gavin is a wonderful golfer and the tourney promises some real fireworks1; she will compete against Mrs. Hurd, Mrs. Barlow, Mrs. Armstrong, Mrs. Chapman, Miss Chandler and many others equally well-known. Mr. and Mrs. Tracy S. Lewis, of New York City, are expected at the Carolina this week. This is their second trip to Pinehurst this season. Mr. Lewis is President of the Beacon Boot and Shoe Co. They will remain indefinitely. Mrs. James Barber entertained two tables of bridge at her home, the Thistle Dhu, last week. , . ' Mr. and Mrs. Albert B. Ashforth and their two sons, George and Albert, Jr., who have been guests at the Carolina since the early part of January, will leave for New York City on the 12th of this month. They will be greatly missed by the many friends they have mad here. Miss Eleanor T. Chandler, medalist and .winner of the Women's St. Valen tine Tournament, left for New York last week. The North and South, how ever, will find her a starter, as she promised to return for the big tourna ment. Mr. John H. Carley, of Sharron, Pa., celebrated his birthday on February 29, with a dinner party for ten of his friends at the Berkshire. Mr. Carley is seventy-six years of age. Mr. Hornblower is entertaining at his home Mr. J. H. Wainwright, of New York City. Mr. Wainwright has just returned from a visit to Palm Beach. , Mr. T. B. Boyd returned to his home in St. Louis, Mo., last week. If business affairs allow, Mr. Boyd promised to be back again this season. Dr. W. L. Kingsley, of Rome, N. Y., entertained six at a dinner party at the Country Club on Thursday last. .. Mr. and Mrs. P. C. Thomas, of Rome, N. Y., are entertaining Dr. and Mrs. W. L. Kingsley, of Rome, N. Y., and Mrs. S. N.
