MISS MARY CHAPMAN Principal The Weekly Harness Races tor Trophies again lured the fans to the racetrack on Wednesday last in spite of threatening weather. A long and inter esting program offered a good day's gport, and in between the acts Pinehurst polo players in raiment of turquoise blue and Chinese yellow the Sand Hill colors offered pleasing diversion for the grandstand. The Class A Pace was run in two heats, and both were easily captured by Mittie Bedworth, Thomas .driving. Princess Ingomar was second each time. The old gray gelding, David B, veteran of the tracks, took third place in the first heat, but broke badly in the second heat and surrendered third honors to Loucella. David B does not appear to be going as well as he did in the early season, but there is a chance that he will stage a come-back before the month is over. The exhibition trot by Gold Bell, Joseh Guy and Eliza Dillon, famous trot- ters here for the winter under Mr. Hyde's care, can only bo described as one of the most beautiful performances we have ever seen. We might go further and say that no where in these United States has any one seen the like of it at least not in the month of March in this year of grace. I the first heat Joe Guy finished first by a nose, Gold Bell, who had the outside all the way round, was second, Eliza Dillon, was third. The second heat brought the three of them abreast at the finish. A winner could 'nt be picked and the judges announced a dead heat. Racing men please note that the last quarter was run in 321 seconds, a 2:10 gait. The two heats in the Class A trot went to Whipcord, who travels much better than he did some weeks ago. Jolla Simmons, with the pole in his favor, took second money, and Wiena, meeting with an accident, was conse qyuently out of the running. The 6 Furlong was decidedly the best flat race of the , matinee. Call piloted Mary Grace O 'Brien 's . Joe Milner home first. Galleyhead ran a good second, and Lyndonia finished third. Miles up on Machese was fourth, and Viva McGee, a newcomer and as yet an un known quality, was fifth. Time, 1:15. The Mile Flat was marred . by a bad start. It was Algardi's race from start to finish. Ray-O-Light pushed him at the close. Russian Pinion didn't figure very strongly and came in third. ' Melos, unfortunately, was scratched. Uncle Sand triumphed in the 7 Fur long Flat and as usual Doctor D. pro vided the opposition; Molly 0, the Nibbs entry finished ' thirdj and Wasseon, .belonging to Mr. H. B. Swoope of Ma dera, Pa., was fourth , in a small field. Time : 1 : 29 4-5. Tracks in good con dition. Summary follows : . . v t , ; CLASS uA PACE Direct Bell ' , Covington V .
