APRIL AND MAY
Some of the most important sports
events of the season will take place dur
ing the month of April. The North and
South tournament for women, March 25
30 will be followed by the Open event
April 1 and 2, and the North and South
Amateur championship will be played
April 4-9. The first annual Polo tour
nament is set for April 1-16; the Horse
Show on April 5-6, and the Dog Show
on April 7-8. The third annual Tennis
tournament starts on April 11 and will
continue throughout the week. Then
comes the North and South Target tour
nament on April 18-23, and the Jockey
Club will hold their usual race meetings
every Wednesday afternoon throughout
the month. Some 300 members of the
American Bankers Association and mem
bers of their families will gather at the
Carolina for the week of May 1-7,

Philadelphia. William Penn has
been cured. Oh, didn't you know he was
ill? He had dropsy and an operation
has been completed and he came out just
fine. William Penn is the statue at the
top of City Hall tower.
However, the operation was more dan
gerous to the " surgeon' than to the
patient. A workman climbed up the
statue, bored holes in each one of Wil
liam's limbs and drained two buckets of
water out of each member. Now Mr.
Penn has recovered sufficiently to receive
callers. The entire tower is open to vis
itors for the first time since before the
war.
AT THE GUN CLUB
There will be a weekly handicap target
tournament at the Gun Club every Tues
day if there are five entries or more, for
a sterling trophy, Ideal Leggett traps.
Bird handicap. The handicap is limited
to twenty birds. A sterling trophy will
be given for the four best scores made
each month during the months of Janu
ary, February and March, in the weekly
handicap tournaments from 16 yards at
400 targets. Annie Oakley will instruct
ladies in the art of shooting, free of
charge. Weekly prizes will be given te
the ladies making the highest score at
the rifle range.
