HIGGINS WINS PUTTING CONTEST The weekly putting contest held on the clock greens at the Country Club on Saturday last and which will be held every Saturday throughout the season, resulted in a triple tie, at 2:, between Mrs. A. S. Iliggins of Yonkers, Mrs. II. II. Rackham of Detroit, and Mrs. E. C. Howlett of Great Neck, L. I., and re quired two play-offs to award the prize. On the first play-off Mrs. Howlett drop ped out and Mrs. Rackham and Mrs. Iliggins tied again, each player t-eorin; 2.5, but on the second play-off Mrs. Ilig gins came out victorious with a score of 2'A as against 24 for her opponent. MISS OLIVE SYFORD WINS RIFLE SHOOT Miss Olive Syford of Knglewood, X. J., won the prize for the best score at the rifle range during the week past with 140 breaks out of a possible 150. Mrs. Lawrence Barr, of Pittsburg, was a close second, at 1.'19, and Miss Nancy Cope of Philadelphia, Avas third, with 138 points. This is a lively week on the links at Pinehurst. The Midwinter tournament tarted with the playing of the quali fying round on Wednesday and continues it match-play throughout the week. The Juniors, boys under 15 years of age, hold their Christmas holiday tournament on Wednesday and Thursday, and most 'wery day there are exhibition matches between leading amateurs and professionals. NOTES OF THE WEEK (Continued from Page 6) An event of interest to their many friends in this section was the wedding of Miss Blanche McNeill of Lakeview "nd Mr. I. C. Sledge of Pinehurst, which took place at the bride's home on Tuesday evening, December 20. The wedding was a quiet home affair and only the members of the two families were present, the Rev. M. D. McNeill of Cameron, officiating. The bride was born and reared in this county and dur ing her girlhood and womanhood has endeared herself to a large circle of friends. The groom, who comes from Nash County, this state, is Treasurer of Pinehurst, Incorporated.
