TUFTS WINS CLASS A PRIZE IN TIN WHISTLES TOURNEY The Class A prize in a selected holes tourney held by the Tin Whistles on Monday last, in which 37 players com pared notes on their best six holes in ach nine, was won by Eichard S. Tufts. Richard played with the aid of his club handicap of 4 strokes, and negotiated six holes going out in 21 and six com ing home in 19 for a winning total of 40 for the twelve holes. H. G. Phillips carried off the low net honors of the day with a round of 73, but the best twelve holes he could mus ter gave him 19 going out and 22 com ing home for second place, at 41. P. S. This group shows the arrival of the first contingent at the club to witness the President, II. R. Reed, (extreme right) drive a $5 gold piece, in form of a golf ball, for the caddies to scramble for. dozen, and James Barber, handicap 14, led the higher handicap division, at 45, and took down the Class C prize. D. Hathaway of Montreal, won the Silver Foils' best ball tournament played on Thursday of this week. Their 101-7 94 won the prize for low gross and also low net. Mrs. F. T. Keating, Pinehurst, and Mrs. Myron W. Marr, played with a handicap 7, and finished second at 106-7 99. Mrs. G. M. Howard, Pinehurst, and Mrs. A. S. Gilman, Cleveland, were third, at 115-15100. Eight pairs played and finished as follows : On Championship Course Tom Boyd, professional of the Fox Hills Club, cut loose with a 69 over the Number 2 course on Thursday of this week, which included birdies on the first, fifth, eighth, fourteenth and seven teenth holes. Boyd's fine round was made in the course of a match in which he and John Golden of Tuxedo, defeated Cyril Walker and Donald Parson, 6 and 4 Boyd and Golden had a best ball of Sl-35 66, as against 34-35 69 for Walker and Parson.
