Cross enter tained a party of friends in their inimit able and gracious fashion at a dinner at the Mid-Pines Club on Friday night. The table was attractively decorated and a most delicious dinner served. The guests were Mrs. Eussell Wiggins, Miss Susanne Wiggins and Miss Mollie Sny der of Middletown, N. Y.; Mr. B. E. Kile of Providence; and Mr. and Mrs. II . B . Emery of Boston. Mrs. W. II. Nearing was hostess at Bridge at her cottage on Friday last in honor of her house-guest, Mrs. M. M. Osborn of Norwalk, Ct. It took the form of a Washington's Birthday party and was a delightful affair. Her guests Avere Mrs. Pierce, Mrs. Ferris, Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Sledge, Mrs. Bamum, Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Durham. At the Carolina on Wednesday night Mrs. A. S. Gilman of Cleveland, enter tained at dinner Mr. and Mrs. Tyler L. Redfield and Mr. and Mrs. John A. Haskell of Boston, all of whom re mained for the evening's festivities at the hotel. Quite the largest Monday morning bridge party of the season was that of Monday last when enough ladies to make up twelve tables gathered at the Carolina for auction. Being a well es tablished custom, the ladies look upon these affairs with keen delight and at tend in large numbers. The winners this week were Mrs. M. M. Osborn, of Nor walk, Ct.; Mrs. J. T. Newton, Pine hurst; Mrs. A. C. Morrison, Hartford, Ct. ; Mrs. A. C. Barrell, New York; Miss Bertha Heide, New York; Mrs. C. E. B:gelow, New York; Mrs. C. F. Zabris kie, Philadelphia; Mrs. W. L. Allen, Richmond, Va.; Mrs. A. S. Gilman, Cleveland; Miss Emma Lockwood, Jer sey City, and Miss E. K. Lemont, Phil adelphia. Mr. W. L. Allen of Richmond gallantly made up a fourth at one table that three ladies should not be disap pointed. Who said the age of chivalry had passed! A Fox Hunt there wTas but only a short one, for this particular fox was of too trusting a nature to believe that harm was headed his way, and after an unusu ally short run the hunt returned with Renard. Miss Grace Pierson and Miss Marie Gillespie, both of New York, shared the honors, one having the brush and the other the mask. Those in party were Mr. Elisha Riggs Jones of Balti more, Mrs. W. L. Langfilt of Pittsburg, Mr. L. II. Gates of Plainfield, Mr. C. II. Brackenbush of Chicago, Mr. Russell Grinnell of Providence, Mrs. Evelyn P. Spencer, Mr. Robert Shaw of Southern Pines, and Mr. E. L.
