KN0LLI00D VILLAGE
Development at Knollwood follows fast. A year ago the
plans were started for the club house and golf grounds at
Mid-Pines. That job is so far along that the course is in use
and the club house occupied by its members. Now begins
the next move .
A. S. Newcomb & Company, have been given a contract to
handle the lands on what is to be Knollwood village, and there
will be created one of the model communities of the South.
Just above the club house toward Pinehurst is a group of
some thirty or forty building sites. Of these about fifteen
are already sold. The others will follow shortly. Over the
Southern: Pines way is another group of equally desirable
sites. These two groups will constitute the village. Lots are
priced at $1,500 each, with a refund on the first ten lots on
which houses are built in the next twelve months.
Between the two groups of lots are the golf course and
club house with another course laid out on the opposite side
of the road. The village will cluster largely about the golf
courses, and be very attractive. A. S. Newcomb and Company
will be glad to discuss locations and conditions with pros
pective buyers.
SPRING ACTIVITY STARTS
IN REAL ESTATE
HOTEL ARRIVALS
The usual Spring activity in Pinehurst
real estate seems to have blossomed earlier
than usual this year, and a number of
transactions have already taken place.
Mr. Leonard Tufts and others connect
ed with real estate in Pinehurst felt that
the minimum in building cost had been
reached and with this in mind the Bar
ret Eoad has been extended through to
McLean Eoad, passing the new residence
of Mr. Lawrence Barr, and thereby open
ing up a number of beautiful building
lots in that vicinity. These are for sale
at $2,250 each, with $350.00 off if the
purchaser builds a house costing $7000.
within one year. Mr. H. B. Emery has
bought one of these lots and expects to
build during the coming summer.
Mr. Robert S. Brookings of Washing
ton, D. C, has bought a lot in the tri
angle next to the residence of Mr. Georgo
A. Magoon, upon which he will build
a winter home right away.
On Community Eoad near the Com
munity House Mr. H. N. Cameron has
sold the house he purchased from the
Pinehurst Plateau Company some time
ago to Mr. Edward D. Veno.
Over at Knollwood a number of lots
have been sold during the past few weeks.
Judge W. A. Way of Pittsburg, who
bears the distinction of being the first
to build and occupy his own h.;mc at
Knollwood, has bought three1 more lots
there and expects to build on ea--h upon
his return from Europe this summer
Mr. Eugene Byrnes, the well-known car
toonist, has bought a lot there and now
has plans in the hands of the architect
for a winter home.
Mr. L. M. Boomer of the Waldorf
Astoria, New York, is another recent pur
chaser at Knollwood and will probably
build in the near future.
Mrs. W. H. Nearing, who recently
transferred her affections from Holly
wood, Calif., to Pinehurst and who bought
the Eugene McKenzie cottage for her
present home, has also bought at Knoll
wood .
Others who have bought there recently
are Messrs. E. L. Merrow and C. A.
Warwick, each of whom bought a build
ing lot.
These recent . purchases wind up the
entire row bordering on the golf course
in sub-division A, and Knollwood village
has now moved across the Midland Road.
Mrs. Richard Markey of New York, is
the first to buy on this side of the road.
Her lot is almost opposite Judge Way's
new residence and she expects to start
building r'ght away.
Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Davis of Wash
ington, D. C, who have been occupying
Mr. H. F. Wilson's house in Southern
Pines this winter, have begun construc
tion of an attractive log-cabin of artistic
design on their recent purchase near the
office of Knollwood, Inc.
The Knollwood Company has recently
made arrangements with Mr. A. S.
Newcomb to act as its agent in disposing
of its real estate. Mr. Newcomb has
been connected with the development of
Pinehurst and Southern Pines for many
years, and is well equipped for this work.
