JAECH SO, 1922 PAGE IT ;TRONG FIELD ENTERED Continued from Page 5) It would not be fitting to fail to men tion B. P. Merriman, winner of the title l?st year. Merriman played fine golf .ere last season but has not been able to iind his game this spring. He feels that within the past few days he has im proved and hopes now to play within a few strokes of his best. Merriman is a great fighter on the links and will not yield his title easily. The qualifying round will be played Monday and Tuesday over the cham pionship and Number 3 courses. Next in importance to the amateur will be the Open, 72 holes medal play on Friday and Saturday of this' week. It is safe to say that all the good ones or very nearly all the good ones, are here and eager for the fray. There is Walter Hagen, Fred McLeod, Jim Barnes and Jock Hutchison. Then comes a host of other fine players, such as Gene Sarazen, Clarence Hackney, Cyril Walker, Charles Mothersele, Tommy Boyd, Pat Doyle, Joe Kirkwood and many others. Next to the national, the field will be the best to start this vear in America. TEA AND DANCING every afternoon at the Country Club from four until six o'clock. PINEHURST OF YESTERDAY and PINEHURST OF TODAY (Continued from Page 6) to lay out the third unit north of the Carolina. For while the village grows faster than anybody suspected it would it still finds the need for homes growing faster than they are created. This is the why of that new club house at the Pine hurst country club, one of the finest club houses that will be found in a Sab bath Day's journey over the whole coun try, for the demands on the golf grounds at Pinehurst are growing beyond any ex pectation of the days when the present club house was designed. The addition of 7,200 feet of floor space will provide accommodation for more people, and while the tournaments this spring brought out the largest number of entrants that ever took part in any game of golf any where on earth, next year it is wholly reasonable to expect more players in the season than this year. This was a cru cial year for winter resorts, but Pine hurst made a new record of visitors and of business, although most resorts had the contrary experience. The causes that made this the best year Pinehurst had ever known are more active now than ever. My guess is that Pinehurst next winter will beat this year all to pieces. New York Office: 342 Madison Avenue Telephone: Murray Hill 9372 7 A Miracle of Seven Years When the territory out the Linden road was laid out about seven years ago few people expected to see by this time the remarkable development that has taken place in that section. A MILLION DOLLARS' WORTH OF IMPROVEMENT IS THE RECORD IN THAT QUARTER When the territory north of the Carolina was opened for sale a week or so ago a different sentiment prevailed. The people expect that area to develop right swiftly. THE MIRACLE OF SEVEN YEARS . Is not the development of the Linden road section, but the change of understanding in the minds of the people. Every body knows now that the new section will be built up quickly. The record of the last seven years is a guarantee of say the coming three or four years, for it will hardly take more than that to fill the new area with houses. Don't delay getting a location in that new lot plan. These sites will sell themselves before you know it. Stroll round that way, and then drop in at the office of the REAL ESTATE SECTION OF PINEHURST, Inc.
