APSIL 6, 1922. SANDHILLS POLO CLUB Stage Annual Tournament The second annual polo tournament at J'inehurst opened on March 30 with seven teams on the ground. This in cludes two teams from Camp Bragg, one from Fort Oglethorpe, the Flamingo team from Miami Beach, the Orange County team from New York, and two foams of the Sand Hill Folo Club. The first day's play was devoted to t he playing of the first round of the Novices' trophy, in which the Sand Hill Orioles met and defeated the Camp Bragg Blue Birds by 10 goals to 8, and advanced to meet the Orange County team which defeated them, 6 goals to 5. The second round of this event was played between Camp Bragg Cardinals and the Sixth Cavalry team from Ft. Ogle tliorpe, which resulted in a victory for the former, leaving them to meet the Orange County team in the finals. This proved to be one of the best games of the week. Both teams car ried handicaps of four goals each, there by starting all even. The Orange County team started out as if they would make a runaway affair of the match and scored 4 goals in the first two chukkas as against none for the army team, but in the fifth chukka the military aggregation staged a wonderful rally Avhen Majors King, Clark and Bowley scored a total of 4 goals in that chukka, making the score at that period 6 to 5 favor of Orange County. Orange County then scored 6 goals in the remaining chukkas, while 3 were all that the Cardinals could muster, and the Orange County team came in possession of the Novices' trophy. But already over a quarter of a million dollars' worth of building is provided for in the new club house, the new thea tre, the new schoolhouse, and a few of the minor buildings. With the usual number of other buildings coming in a little later it would not be surprising to see the total go nearer half a million than a quarter of a million. It may exceed the higher figure. Who knows? The summer will be an active one. The fall will see a new Pinehurst. This is a pretty good time to be going with the crowd.
