SUCCESSFUL POLO TOURNA MENT COMES TO CLOSE CAMP BRAGG CARDINALS With the playing of the final round for the Southern Circuit Cup on Thurs .day last, in which the Flamingo team from Miami Beach triumphed over the Sand Hills team, it wound up the second annual polo tournament at Pinehurst, and from the unusual amount of en thusiasm it indicated that polo is to be one of the leading sports in the Sand Hill section. The Flamingo team, two teams from Camp Bragg, one from Fort Oglethorpe and the Orange County, N. Y., team comprised the visiting clubs. The tournament extended over the period of March 30 to April 12, and three trophies, the Novices, Sand Hills and the Southern Circuit Cup presented by the Polo association, were played for. The Flamingo team, which included such stars as Harry East, a handicap 7 man, Earl Shaw, handicap 4, and Carl Craw ford, handicap 3, carried off the chiet honors by winning the Sand Hills trophy and the Southern Circuit Cup, (while the Orange County team accounteU for the Novices' event. Camp Bragg and the Sand Hillers failed to annex a trophy, but both put up hard and game fought, battles, the Camp Bragg Cardinals going to the finals of the Novices' and Sand Hills events, and the Sand Hill team worked its way to the finals of the Southern Circuit Cup. The tournament started with the play ing of the first round of the Novices' event, in which the Sand Hill Orioles met and defeated the Camp Bragg Blue Birds and advanced to meet the Orange County team in the semi-finals which de feated them 6 goals to 5. The second round of this event was played between the Camp Bragg Cardinals and the Sixth Cavalry team from Fort Oglethorpe, and resulted in a victory for the former, leav ing them to meet the Orange County team in the finals. Both these teams carried handicaps of four goals each, thereby starting all even, and the match proved one of the best of the tournament. Orange County came through victorious and came in possession of the Novices' trophy . In the Sand Hills event, the Camp Bragg Cardinals again defeated Fort Oglethorpe in the first round, while the Flamingo team took the measure of the Sand Hillers in the second round and administered a similar defeat to the Camp Bragg Blue Birds in the semi finals, leaving them to meet the Card inals in the finals, whom they defeated 18 goals to 11 and took possession- of the Sand Hills trophy. The Southern Circuit Cup, which wound up the tournament, also resulted in a victory for the Flamingoes. The Blue Birds defeated Fort Oglethorpe in the first round and the Sand Hills team de feated the Cardinals in the second round. The Flamingoes were victorious over the Blue Birds in the semi-finals and held the Sand Hillers scoreless in the finals, winning the match and Cup. The line-up of the? competing teams was : 1. Maj.
