The Judges were Messrs. Ambrose Gaines and R. T. Stedman. Denwood Leta Ferris, a lemon and white pointer, owned and handled by P. H. Powel, was awarded first place in the Members' Stake. Kirk's Ashantee Dominant, owned and handled by Harry D. Kirkover, was second and Pinehurst Beulah, owned and handled by Leonard Tufts, was third. The Derby was held on Tuesday and the awards were as follows : First, Radio, owned by Dr. J. S. Brown ; second, Wagley Dot, owned by Dr. J. T. Sevier ; third, Silk Stockings, owned by H. I. Hedwick. Kirk's Ashantee Dominant, the lemon and white pointer dog which finished second in the Members' stake and one of the most consistent field trial winners in the country, was awarded first honors in the Free-for-All event. Second place went to Chesterfield's Palmetto Pat, owned by Dr. O. H. Purvis, and third place to John Bimpkin's Jack, entered by E. V. Boatwright. The various stakes were not completed in time for a full account of the trials in this issue of the Outlook, but will be given in full in a later issue. Forestry Convention at Pinehurst THE twelfth annual Forestry Convention, held under the joint auspices of the North Carolina Forestry Association and the State Geological and Economic Survey, opened at the Berkshire Hotel at Pinehurst on Tuesday of last week and continued through Wednesday. The meeting opened Tuesday morning with an invocation by Rev. T. A. Cheatham and an address of welcome by Mr. Leonard Tufts. This was followed by an address of the President, Hon. Gallatin Roberts, of Asheville. Mr. Roberts summed up in a speech of remarkable clarity the work of the conservation of forests and other resources in the past, and told in graphic form things needed to be done in the immediate future. He covered the whole ground to be discussed at the meeting, which embraced the dual protection of forests and wild life. Among the visiting speakers at the session at Pinehurst were Hon. J. G. Peters, Chief of the U. S. Forestry Service at Washington; Major E. A. Goldman, of the United States Biological Survey at Washington, and Mr. W. R.
