H. Palmer and Mrs. W. B. Lasher. o Mrs. Frank H. Galey and Miss Eleanor Galey were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Harding at the Carolina on Thursday. 0 A large party of eager riders made an early start from the Caro lina on Friday last in search of the elusive fox, and after a chase of several hours the party returned with the brush. Mrs. R. D. Walker was first in at the kill and was awarded the brush. Those in the party were Mr. and Mrs. Walker, Dr. and Mrs. N. T. Compton, Mrs. W. T. Northgrave, Mrs. William C. Browning, Mrs. D. M. Barclay and Mr. C. H. Brackebush. o The specialties staged by amateurs at the Jockey Club races each week are very popular and are keenly enjoyed by the par ticipants as well as the onlookers. At last week's races Miss Helen Butterfield won the ribbon contest, and Mr. J. C. Thomas and Miss Johnson were awarded the prizes in the overall race. Mrs. N. T. Compton captured the prize in the Egg and Spoon race. Mr. Carbett Alexander made a clean sweep in the tilting contest and scored three rings. o Mrs. George N. Towle was hostess at dinner at the Berkshire on Thursday evening. Her guests were Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Merrill, Mrs. A. S. Gilman and Mrs. Tyler L. Redfield. 0 Mr. E. H. Palmer, of Geneva, N. Y., is at the Holly Inn on his annual visit to the South. Mr. Palmer is a business associate of William H. Blauvelt, Chief Engineer of the Solvay Process Com pany, whose sister, Miss A. G. Blauvelt, has been a guest at the Carolina for several weeks. o Mrs. H. C. Beall and Mr. E. C. Beall were guests of Mr. Donald S. Leas for dinner at the Carolina on Monday last. o On Friday morning Mrs. A. W. Stanley was hostess at bridge at the Carolina for Mrs. O. C. Hutchinson, Mrs. W. H. Cluett and Mrs. F. C. Boustead. 0 Lieutenant Echolls entertained the Fort Bragg officers and their wives at tea at the Country Club after the polo game on Friday. o Mrs. J. H. Gallup, Miss Catherine Gallup and Mrs. Leta Gallup Hogan were guests of Mrs. F. W. Kennedy for tea at the Club on Friday afternoon. o The following was the program at the Sunday evening concert at the Carolina this week: "It is in music, perhaps, that the soul most nearly attains the great end by which, when inspired by the poetic sentiment, it struggles the creation of supernal beauty."
