Ml Illl IIIIIIUI I IMII.MIMIIII Ill The Indoor gymnkhana, held in the Fair building at the race track on Wednesday last, was a most enjoyable affair and drew out a large number of riders to take part in the festivities. Mrs. N. T. Compton, of Savannah, won the prize in the Ribbon contest and Miss Gertrude Huber won the Egg and Spoon race. First prize in the Potato race was awarded to Mrs. W. H. Cane. o Mr. and Mrs. Nat S. Hurd entertained at a delightful dinner dance at the Country Club on Wednesday evening. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. John A. Tuckerman, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Scofield, E. C. Beall, J. V. Hurd, Mrs. J. G. Splane, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Page, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Abbott and Mr. H. Curtis. o On Wednesday night the "Bachelors" of the Sand Hill section gave a most delightful dance at the Country Club. About three hundred guests from all over the section were there and the crowd was highly congenial. The affair was such an enjoyable one the "bachelors" are already putting their heads together and whispering about another party after the Easter holidays. The ball was preceded by several dinner parties in the early even ing. Mrs. Ralph W. Page entertained t about thirty at Mid-Pines. Captain W. W. Cowgill had a jolly party at his home and Miss Ellen Merrow dined others at Samarcand. Those giving the dance were Messrs. Halbert Blue, Ned Beall, Shields Cameron, Paul Dana, Dr. J. W. Dickie, Major E. T. Duval, F. C. Garibaldi, R. C. Hunter, J. V. Healy, Sherrill Kent, Howard Bowen, Jack Latting, Francis Morton, Lee MacKay, Channing Page, Robert Snow, Dr. R. T. Taylor, Richard Tufts and Van Wolff. B. Giltner, the popular Judge and Starter at the Jockey Club races at Pinehurst, does not play golf but he certainly scored a phenomenal shot at quail shooting a few days ago while hunting with a party of friends. A covey of birds was flushed and one of them flew directly toward the Judge with great force. With the crack of the gun the bird fell with a thud against Dr. Giltner's body and on into the pocket of his hunting coat. Mr. Curtis Wiggs, one' of the members of the party, remarked that it was the most remarkable thing he had ever seen, to which the Judge smilingly replied "that's the way we do it in Pinehurst."
