Gradually Pinehurst grows more and more of an all-the-year community. While The Carolina closes in May this year there is no telling how soon it may be compelled to continue open for a longer period in the spring and to open sooner in the fall. But meanwhile the summer delegations that come here for one purpose or another continue to increase, and it is apparent that before much longer the summer population will be sufficiently large to make of the village a summer as well as a winter resort and to require the broader facilities for handling the summer patronage that is present ing itself. I have seen Pinehurst grow from nothing to its present propor tions, and in all its history it was never on such solid footing with such prospects for the future as it has this spring. r,-JP " I I 1 I lini HI I r f S 'I ll I .:. - - - j,, &-jllllllllllllllnhi Mllllllllllllllllllim 99 f"pr-'Lw'B m&&fxmmKmmi- m 1-m .t.f Mi Visitors Win Last of Series THE last of the series of polo games between the visiting English team and teams of the Sandhill Polo Club was played with the Sandhill Blues on Monday last, and resulted in a victory for the visitors, 11 goals to 8, making four games won out of five games played. The Englishmen had just returned from Fort Bragg, where they engaged in a series of games with the army team there, and seemed to be in better form than in any game since their arrival here. Cap tain Egan was back in the line-up after a forced absence on account of an attack of lumbago and gave his team strong support. They started off with a rush and scored three goals in rapid succession in the first chukka which put their opponents strictly on the defensive. John A. Tuckerman, of the local team, scored a goal in the fourth period and one in the seventh, and his team-mate W. V. Slocock, staged the most spectacular play of the game when he picked the ball from near the visitors' goal and carried it the full length of the field for'a tally. The visitors remained in Pinehurst for the Horse Show, held on Tuesday and Wednesday, at which Captains Egan and Holman judged the polo pony classes. They left on Thursday for New York from whence they will sail for England on Saturday of this week. The team certainly made a big hit in Pinehurst and their visit was a most enjoyable one. fiULlLH i' YUR first tryout on the putting greens with a Blue Colonel Golf Ball shows you its remarkable balance, for it rolls straight, saving you many an otherwise' wasted stroke. And fewer putts mean a lower score. And in driving and on approaches this balance manifests itself in unusual distance and precise direction, the Blue Colonel's lasting qualities proving downright economy.
